  • Features
    • Freezer Type: Chest (Chest freezers have a lid that lifts from above and open storage space within, helpful for storing bulk items. Upright freezers open from the front and provide vertical storage, which helps keep items accessible. Column freezers are similar to upright but are typically built-in to complement existing spaces.)
    • Defrost Type: Manual (Ice build-up can reduce the appliance’s cooling capacity, making it work harder and consume more energy. Defrosting is necessary to maintain its efficiency and each type has its own advantages depending on user needs and preferences. Manual defrost appliances require unplugging to melt ice naturally, but offer more space, lower energy consumption, and lower cost without the internal heating element. Frost-free appliances regulate temperature to prevent ice build-up automatically. Automatic defrost systems use a timer to circulate heat and prevent ice accumulation, while adaptive defrost systems use sensors to determine the optimal times for heat circulation.)

Q: Can this freezer be kept in the garage in Minnesota?

A: Hi Lynsie-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! To obtain efficient operation, a freezer should be installed properly. Place the freezer where the surrounding external temperatures will not exceed 110 degrees F. or fall below 0 degrees F. Position the freezer in a dry, well ventilated room. Do not install it in a closet. Allow for a 3" air clearance on each side, and a 1" air clearance in the rear of the freezer. Thanks for checking with us!

Q: Is this freezer Energy Star certified or not?

A: Hello - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. While this chest freezer is very energy efficient, it is not considered to be an Energy Star model. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Q: How do you defrost it

A: Most freezers have to be defrosted at this price I am sure. Schedule for defrosting will depend on amount in freezer etc. I have two other frigs with smaller freezers that do require defrosting so between them and coolers we will defrost when it's less full.

Q: What are the interior dimensions of this freezer?

A: Hi Kyle G-this is Sue from GE Appliances. Thanks for viewing our Chest Freezers! The approximate interior dimensions are 31.5"(W) x 15"(D) x 27.5"(H). The compressor area (hump) is approximately 7.5"(W) x 15"(D) x 9.5"(H). Thanks for checking with us!

Q: Freezing level

A: Hello - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The correct operating temperature of chest freezers is -5 to +5 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend keeping the freezer temperature control in the middle unless you want your food more or less frozen. If you wish to take the temperature of the solid food inside the freezer, then place a candy bulb thermometer capable of reading temperatures below zero degrees between frozen packages or in some ice cream. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Q: Does this freezer automatically restart after a power outage?

A: Hi Ray-this is Sue from GE Appliances. Yes, the freezer will restart after a power failure. Thanks for checking with us!
