The Pre-1 is an affordable stereo preamplifier that handles the signal conditioning tasks a power amplifier alone cannot. It accepts phono, microphone, tape, tuner, CD/DVD and auxiliary sources, matching each to the appropriate sensitivity and impedance: 3mV at 47k ohms for phono, 0.5V at 600 ohms for microphone and 150mV at 47k ohms for line sources. A phono stage with proper gain and loading means a turntable connects directly without a separate phono preamp. The microphone input boosts low-level mic output to a usable recording level, which produces a cleaner signal than plugging a microphone straight into a computer.
