About this product
In the kaleidoscopic world of jazz and soul, few voices shine brighter than Gloria Lynne's. By 1974, Lynne wasn't just a singer - she was a force of nature, weaving the precision of jazz with the raw, heart-on-sleeve intensity of soul and pop. Born and raised in Harlem, she carried the neighborhood's spirit with her, from gospel choirs to the Apollo stage, where a teenage talent show win set her on a path to stardom. Her voice, smooth as velvet and fierce as a tempest, carved out a space that was entirely her own in the male-dominated world of jazz. This album is evidence of that. It captures the heart of a remarkable artist. A greatest hits snapshot of a woman who turned jazz into her personal playground while seamlessly crossing over into pop without ever losing sight of her roots. This album is more than a collection of songs; it's a vivid portrait of an artist who built her career on grit, grace, and a relentless refusal to be confined by labels. Each track is a testament to Lynne's ability to infuse standards with her own emotional depth and to transform pop melodies into deeply personal statements.

Gloria Barnes got her start as InchTowandaInch Barnes, releasing 45's on both The Groovy tag in 1966 and A&M Records in 1969. InchUptownInch, her one and only full-length offering, came two years later in 1971 on the some what obscure, but vibrant Maple tag. The Johnny Brantley produced long-player yielded impressive results and features backing from both Lee Moses & The Disciples and The Hustlers. The platter mixes upbeat tracks with some fiery deep soul and includes InchYou Don't Mean ItInch, a song penned by the Ohio Players. Gloria's version of the cut became popular among those in the know in England's Northern Soul movement. Barnes' vocal prowess is on full display in the opening track, a seven-minute showstopper entitled InchOld Before My TimeInch, the A-side of the only single culled from the LP. All tracks newly remastered.
