Greenleaf - Secret Alphabets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Legendary guitarist John Ricci of Exciter returns with his new band, Powerrage. Alongside Ricci are bassist Todd Pilon (formerly of Witchkiller), drummer Lucas Dery, and singer Jacques Bélanger, who was featured on the three Exciter albums. Powerrage's music is difficult to describe, but in addition to ultra-heavy doom/death metal, there are also Exciter influences and parallels to early Mercyful Fate. The eight tracks on Beast were recorded with the help of John Ricci's longtime friend and producer Manfred Leidecker and mixed by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio. When you listen to uncompromisingly hard tracks like InchDark Wings,Inch InchHaunted Hell,Inch or the almost punk-sounding (and somewhat reminiscent of the unique Amebix) InchI Torture I Kill,Inch it quickly becomes clear that Powerrage is indeed a new beginning.

Before they become a proper band, Greenleaf began as a loose collective of friends making 70s-inspired hard rock and proto-metal. Led by guitarist Tommi Holappa, co-founder of European desert rock originators Dozer, various configurations of Greenleaf included members of Lowrider, Truckfighters, Demon Cleaner, Dozer and more. And despite the rotating cast of players, they managed to multiple albums of the highest caliber riff rock across the 14 years in their original unstructured form. Now, in celebration of the Swedish heavyweights' astonishing 25-year career and the stratospheric of their June 2024 LP 'The Head & The Habit', Magnetic Eye Records brings forth brand new reissues of three of GREENLEAF's iconic out-of-print classics, with new editions of 'Secret Alphabets', 'Agents of Ahriman' and 'Nest of Vipers' presented as sleek new colored vinyl editions and digisleeve CD.
