Hans Theessink - Hard Road Blues - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

HANS THEESSINK InchHARD ROAD BLUESInch 1994 Blue Groove BG-6020, produced by Hans Theessink Even though I like all sorts of roots music, my first love is the acoustic blues as created in the last century. As a boy I remember hearing Big Bill Broonzy for the first time on late night radio. I was totally taken by the emotional richness and the sound of one person singing and playing guitar at the same time. To me that's sort of my musical base. My song 'Big Bill's Guitar' is a keysong for me that I tend perform at all my solo concerts. 'HARD ROAD BLUES' is my first recording of this basic blues form one man - one guitar. Enjoy, Hans Theessink This sparse guitar-and-voice production is immediately engaging. Theessink plays with a strong groove and excellent tone and sings in a deep, resonant voice. A majority of the songs are originals that show his love of traditional blues forms. This recording deserves a spot in the stores next to the work of the men who inspired it. (James Jensen, Acoustic Guitar, CD hit list, USA, 1997) Theessink is a formidable slide guitarist - check him out! (Kenneth Johnson, The Charlotte Observer, August 97) The arrangements are sparse but very rich in dynamics and highlights his emotional directness and superb phrasing in both his guitar playing and vocal delivery. Theessink has a total grasp on the loping, pulsing rhythm that propels classic Delta blues music. Songwriting craftsmanship is amply displayed in InchBig Bill's GuitarInch, where bittersweet reminiscences of life events linked to distant experiences of Big Bill Broonzy are artfully fit over a traditional blues framework. (Andy Allen, Dirty Linen, USA, July 96) Let one more myth die quickly; you don't have to be American to play the blues. Hans Theessink is in that select group of artists such as John Hammond, Paul Geremia and Rory Block, whom all share the responsibility for preser

Hans Theessink - Pay Day - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For our duo album PAY DAY we went to Pinky's paradise to record in a relaxed atmosphere in beautiful, inspiring surroundings in the hilly vineyards of southern Styria. Our recording engineer Thomas LInchffler brought in the equipment and set up a makeshift studio, connecting the rooms we were going to use. I really enjoyed singing and playing with Wilson - we had a ball. Wilson and I had picked songs for the session - some old, some new, some borrowed. The songs are bluesy with several excursions to related musical areas - it's all music to us. We had lots of fun cooking up our special musical stew with all the natural ingredients, spices and flavors - enjoy! Album Tracks 1. Everybody Ought to Treat 2. A Stranger Right 3. Walking 4. Pay Day 5. Little Nora Maj 6. Vintage Red Wine 7. I Got Plenty 8. Virus Blues 9. Hard Time Killing Floor 10. Denomination Blues 11. Ballerina 12. Old Man Trouble 13. Who's Dat Knocking 14. Build Myself a Home 15. Hurry Hurry 16. Train 17. Roll with the Punches

Hans Theessink - Jedermann Remixed - the Soundtrack - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A low-key but emotionally moving collection of stripped down songs, performed by Hans Theessink, who plays and sings with singular grace, using his honeyed baritone and his soulful pickin' to reinterpret songs by people as diverse as Hank Williams, Tom Waits, Bo Diddley, Johnny Cash, and the Rolling Stones, recasting all of their familiar tunes and a few of his own in service to a movie based on the Austrian version of Everyman, the English morality play. Album Tracks 1. Way Down in the Hole 2. The Man Comes Around 3. No Expectations 4. I'm a Man 5. The Best in Me 6. Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down 7. Cuckoo 8. Ready for the Ride 9. Mother's Advice 10. I Got a Woman 11. You Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond 12. The Angel of Death 13. Mother Earth 14. Call Me 15. Oh Singer Man 16. People Get Ready 17. Sympathy for the Devil 18. Games People Play
