About this product

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Haylie Davis presents Wandering Star, a coming-of-age debut that unfolds like a Townes Van Zandt tale set in a deserted diner off a re-routed interchange intimate, cinematic and quietly fearless.Haylie Davis channels the spirit of the early '70s, when Carole King and Joni Mitchell redefined songwriting. That time-travelling sensibility is celebrated on Wandering Star, the album's title track. A piano-led meditation steeped in longing, the song carries the eerie shadow of Karen Carpenter, buoyed by a luminous, aching sub-melody.The blissful ballad 'Horns of Time' taps into a plaintive cosmic country palette reminiscent of Emmylou Harris. 'Give Me a Rainbow' follows, a lo-fi folk reverie recalling Clairo, as if filtered through a back-porch-reclining, wide-eyed Dolly Parton in awe of her own roots. Rolling Stone has hailed Davis' earlier recordings as Inchgently hued Laurel Canyon folk-pop songsInch, and on Wandering Star her compass swings wider still. Her maturing worldview and distinctive vocal at times evoke Lana Del Rey and Weyes Blood crafting an ode to Gram Parsons - a hybrid on full display in the self-examining passion of 'I Was Wrong'.A fresh take on modern pop, Wandering Star is infectious, brimming with hooks, soaring choruses and storylines that tug at the heartstrings.

Mikaela Davis - And Southern Star - VINYL LP

Five years since her debut album Delivery, Mikaela Davis has moved away from her hometown of Rochester, shared the stage with the likes of Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Christian McBride, Bon Iver, Lake Street Dive and Circles Around the Sun and entered a new decade. But it's the ever-evolving relationships between her closest friends and bandmates that has propelled the Hudson Valley-based artist onto her latest album And Southern Star-a truly collaborative effort that ruminates on the choices we make, and the people we always come back to.The band, made up of Davis (harp/vocals), Alex Coté (drums), Cian McCarthy (guitars/vocals), Shane McCarthy (bass/vocals) and Kurt Johnson (steel guitar), have been playing together for over a decade and it's the first time they've appeared on a full length record together. Weaving 60s pop-soaked melodies, psychedelia and driving folk rock, And Southern Star picks apart the reflection we used to recognise, while trying to build a new one. It navigates the periphery of past selves, the coexistence of isolation and excitement in a new environment and the tension of growing away from what we thought we wanted, tackling it with a luscious, kaleidoscopic grace. InchI finally feel like this album is more me than anything else that's been released,Inch Davis says, adding that producing the album along with her four bandmates allowed them to carve out their own ideas, rather than someone else's. It's the band's collective step into adulthood that has informed much of And Southern Star's thematic landscape.A1. CinderellaA2. Home In The CountryA3. One Of These DaysA4. PromiseA5. The PearlB1. Heather Trost - Petrichor - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. Petrichor is New Mexico-based artist Heather Trost's second or third solo full-length. Petrichor is fresh, unique, and really fucking good. Sonically, this modern psychedelic pop music is as experimental as it is accessible. Petrichor was recorded between 2018 and 2019 by Heather Trost and her husband Jeremy Barnes at their home studio. The two are community activists, urban gardeners, and full-time musicians. Trost has an impressive body of work, notably in collaboration with husband Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel) on their own record tag Living Music Duplication, and their dazzling and uncategorizable Eastern European folk-influenced band A Hawk And A Hacksaw, where she sings and plays violin, autoharp, keyboards, and other instruments. In the last two decades, Trost has toured and recorded with dozens of artists, including Beirut, Josephine Foster, Thor and his Friends, Claire Cronin, and the Swans. Fans of A Hawk And A Hacksaw might be surprised at how different Trost sounds; she describes the difference as working in Inchtwo different languages.Inch Trost explains that Inchrecording music and writing songs reminds me of making a collageor a quilt.Inch

Cat Power - Wanderer - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. Wanderer, Cat Power's stunning tenth studio album, marks a pivotal moment in both Marshall's life and her career. In the six years since the of 2012's Sun, she has traveled the world, given birth to a child, and parted ways with her previous record tag. Even though it was, in many ways, a period of profound upheaval and radical change, those experiences resulted in a record that is arguably the most assured artistic statement of her career. Produced by Marshall and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck), the album includes appearances by longtime friends and compatriots, as well as guest vocals courtesy of recent tourmate Lana Del Rey. Wanderer is, in many ways, a quintessential Cat Power record, with Marshall's clarion voice front and center in a set of songs that remarkably stark and straightforward. But, if old Cat Power records might easily have been viewed as repositories for pain, Wanderer is, at it's heart, a testament to the transformative nature of songs, an album-length imagining of alternate paths, redemptions, connections, and open-ended possibility.
