High Duchess - Wanderlust - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Voted Young British Classical Performer of the Year at the 2006 Classical Brits, Alison Balsom follows her critically-acclaimed album Bach Works for Trumpet with Caprice, a novel and demanding program of specially arranged popular classical works. The album features sparkling transcriptions of Mozart's 'Rondo alla Turca' and the Queen of the Night's aria (from the Magic Flute) as well as the scintillating 'Variations on Bellini's Norma' by the French virtuoso Jean-Baptiste Arban. Amongst the more lyrical numbers, Balsom plays arrangements of Rachmaninov's haunting Vocalise and the exquisite Nocturne from Tomasi's Trumpet Concerto. She also brings her unique sound to two pieces played by the trumpet alone Paganini's well-known violin Caprice No.24 and Debussy's Syrinx.

Wanderlust is a voyage around the world of folk and the traditions that emerged from each countries' unique blend of traditional music. Ranging from the rolling hills of Romania to the jagged cliffs of Newfoundland, flutist Lara Deutsch and guitarist Adam Cicchillitti have compiled a survey of folk music naturally suited to the flute and guitar. Drawing on the roots of folk traditions from around the world, the duo gracefully navigates a plethora of styles through their own unique identity as predominantly classical players.

Wanderlust journeys into new territory with jazz inspired songs that span countries and genres in six languages, from Cole Porter to Astor Piazzolla, Michel Legrand to BjInchrk, Violetta Parra to Ennio Morricone. The San Diego-based vocalist's love for languages and world cultures has been life-long, having lived in Japan and Spain along with traveling widely and often, and this InchwanderlustInch is evident in the music she chooses and the talent she surrounds herself with. Produced by Matt Pierson and recorded in New York City, she's joined by drummer Antonio Sanchez, guitarist Romero Lubambo, & percussionist Rog'rio Boccato, along with saxophonist Chris Potter, pianist Josh Nelson and more.
