About this product
Hiss Golden Messenger - I'm People. The brand-new album from Hiss Golden Messenger and the first with Chrysalis Records. I'm People is a vivid, deeply human album born from a period of rupture, renewal, and vast American wandering. Written across Bolinas, the North Carolina Piedmont, and a Santa Fe motel room, the record traces the artist's search for clarity through landscapes both external and internal. These songs move through heartbreak, aging, fatherhood, desire, disillusionment, and the hard-won hope that remains after the spirit has been scraped bare. Produced with Josh Kaufman at Dreamland, a decommissioned church outside Woodstock, the album carries the warmth of musicians playing live in a circle, stained-glass light filtering across guitars, drums, and upright bass. Contributions from Bruce Hornsby, Sam Beam, Marcus King, Sara Watkins, Amy Helm, Eric D. Johnson, and members of Dawes enrich a sound world that feels immediate, vulnerable, and fully alive. InchI'm People is an intensely human record, and so one that needed to feel immediate, vulnerable, and fully dancing; something you could touch, sing along to, know about, recognize, relate with. I know what the record is to me and I bet it's not so dissimilar from what it's about to you, at least in the broad strokes The heartbreak and exhilaration, the absolute black comedy of being a person on this razor's edge that is America circa 2025. What other choice do we have than to be hopeful?Inch - MC Taylor on I'm People. Hiss Golden Messenger is a Grammy nominated artist based in North Carolina, with multiple Album Of The Year and Best Americana Album awards, reaching #2 in the Americana Charts and performances and tours across the world, including the UK and Europe + performances on US TV; Late Night With Seth Myers. Album Tracks 1. In the Middle of It 2. Who You Gonna Run To? 3. Shaky Eyes 4.

Songwriter and bandleader M.C. Taylor's music is at once familiar, yet impossible to categorize Elements from the American songbook-the steady, churning acoustic guitar and mandolin, the gospel emotion, the eerie steel guitar tracings, the bobbing and weaving organ and electric piano-provide the bedrock for Taylor's existential ruminations about parenthood, joy, hope, and loneliness-our delicate, tightrope balance of dark and light-that offer fully engaged contemporary commentary on the present. And then there's an indescribable spirit and movement Hiss Golden Messenger's music grooves. There's nothing else quite like it.Taylor says that he wanted to make Terms of Surrender Incha wandering record. I wanted where we recorded it to mirror the searching spirit of the music.Inch Having written upwards of 40 songs-in motel rooms, his studio in North Carolina, and a secluded cottage outside of Charlottesville, Virginia-Taylor winnowed them down to the ten works that comprise Terms of Surrender. With regular collaborators-including Phil and Brad Cook, Josh Kaufman, and Matt McCaughan-and new friends like Jenny Lewis and Aaron Dessner (of The National), the crew decamped to Dessner's Long Pond studio in upstate New York, Sound City in Los Angeles, and producer Roger Moutenot's Haptown studio in Nashville to create the most fully realized and genre-defying Hiss Golden Messenger album to date. Album Tracks 1. I Need a Teacher 2. Bright Direction (You're a Dark Star Now) 3. My Wing 4. Old Enough to Wonder Why (East Side-West Side) 5. Cat's Eye Blue 6. Happy Birthday, Baby 7. Down at the Uptown 8. Katy (You Don't Have to Be Good Yet) 9. Whip 10. Terms of Surrender
