Q: For HP x360 - 15M - DR1012DX 1) What is the Optane? 2) Is the memory upgradable? Thanks - gfossen
A: Optane is a small partition where programs that are frequently used are stored for faster opening. Yes, the memory is upgradable to 16 gb. However, be aware that there is not easy access memory door on the bottom of the laptop. You will have to remove the comer and install it from the keyboard side.
Q: I only want to get this if a pen or stylus work well with it. If so, what’s the best kind to get?
A: The Wacom - Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus works with this device.
A: There is a privacy switch on the side of the laptop that turns off the camera. It is a physical switch - it cannot be overridden in software. If turned off, the camera will not appear in Device Manager.
Q: Is there an ethernet port for wired internet?
A: Doesnt appear to have one, but you could buy an USB ethernet port for external connection. I added products to give you an idea of what I'm saying you could use.
Q: What is the battery life of this laptop ?
A: The battery is alright I get about 10hrs of heavy use doing my homework and watching videos
Q: Is this laptop aluminum or plastic that looks like metal?
A: It is an all metal case.
A: You can swap out the NVME SSD for a 1TB SSD for example.
A: If you are not set on a certain brand of word processor, check out LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Both are great open source (i.e. free) software packages and quite Microsoft-compatible, albeit admittedly not 100%. The package includes equivalents of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. I use LibreOffice every day and love it bc I get updates regularly.
