I would suggest, if you truly wanted to utilize this device without using the included wired over the ear headphones, you could purchase a double ended 3.5 audio jack cord, plug one end of the cord into the device(compact CD player) and the other end of the cord into a portable speaker (separately purchased)with a 3.5 audio jack ; make sure the portable speaker is manufactured with a 3.5 audio jack... cell phone manufacturer's have slowly all but phased out the 3.5 audio jack function, I would not be surprised if portable speaker manufacturer's have also started phasing out the 3.5 jack
