I originally wanted a Bose Wave radio when it was on sale before the holidays for $539 but I decided even that was too expensive. I saw this Insignia shelf system on sale for a very good price of $79 new or 65.99 open box. I decided to take the gamble on the open box item. It has amazing sound quality at this price! It has two 20 watt speakers (40 watts left and right) and a 40 watt sub woofer for 80 watts total. I agree with other reviews that I don’t think you can get sound this good anywhere near the $65.99 price. Even $79 would be worth it! The bass is great. I like how you can turn the volume up loud and it doesn’t distort. It still sounds very clear. At the regular $150 price I would have to shop around more since that puts it in tougher competition with more choices. I did also purchase Bose Companion 20 computer speakers to hook up to this to make it more like a “Wave radio” but the sound from this by itself is great! The only thing the Bose speakers improves on is better bass at low volume which was important for my use of this in my bedroom at night. I also think they give a “wider stereo soundstage” overall though when I was browsing shelf systems on Best Buy’s website nothing came close to what this offered for the price. I really liked that this has Bluetooth, CD player, FM radio, line input jack and USB input. I can also change my iPhone if I need to using the USB port. I have not tried hooking up a USB flash drive and listening to music files stored on it but that is a nice feature to have. I did try a few mp3 format cd’s and they played with no issues. There were much more expensive shelf systems with less watts (powerful sound) offered. The remote is also very useful. I couldn’t pass up these features for this price! I didn’t listen to a Bose Wave radio to compare but I cannot imagine it sounds so much better than this to make it worth what they are asking for it at $599.

Whoever made this for Insignia knew what they were doing. I can't speak for the longevity of the product, I've only had it a little under a month, but this unit was a lot more than I expected for $149 bucks. It's constantly on sale in my local Best Buy and I bought an open box that brought the price down to $90 out the door. You've read the specs, I'm not gonna rehash them here but with 40 watts going just to the down firing 'subwoofer' it's got punch that you might not expect. There is a roundness, a balance to the sound. You will wonder how such small drivers can deliver full sound. Is it as good as my floor standing speakers that I use for my turntable? No, of course not, there is no sound stage or separation but it does fill the room without fatiguing my ears. My plan of installing speaker outs went out the window after a couple hours of listening. I did add spiked feet (Parts Express part #240-676) and I'm loving the new aesthetic (see pictures). I am seriously considering adding a second one and keeping it the box. Insignia caught lighting in a bottle with this one.

I have collected any CD's. However technical advancements made it almost impossible to find a good CD player. I was glad to find this CD player. It was economical stylish and compact.

Exactly what I was looking for. Will play music from multiple sources including radio and cd so an internet connection is not required. Nice sound, remote is handy. Love the retro look.

I wanted a little secondary setup to play my vinyl records with the minimal amount of components possible. After grabbing an Audio Technica turntable, I battled with getting bookshelf speakers & an amp, but knew there had to be something more convenient. Enter the only All-in-one titled consumer electronic that actually fits its namesake. Audio quality is consistent across CD/BT/Aux and while not for audiophiles by any means, the tiny 40 watt sub underneath is a wonderful touch (and saved another component!). Form factor mixes 70s component style with contemporary industrial design, and is the perfect solution and is exactly as described.

I wanted a system that I could access Blue Tooth from my phone and a CD player for my CD's and put in our living room. This looks much better than a Boom Box...it is a little bigger that I expected..it is not inconspicuous...but, it works. Sound is ok...nothing great..but, I think I'm getting what I paid for.

I have to start off by saying that I have had some really high end audio components in my lifetime. I’m very fussy about the sound quality of my music. I went into Best Buy just to browse and the first thing that grabbed my attention was how amazing this unit looks. I just had to Bluetooth my phone to this and it was a cinch. The sound that came out of the speakers blew me away. I picked up a box and bought it right away. I highly recommend this item!!!

I purchased this as I like music on. I was very surprised that is sounds so nice and amplified clearly. Purchased 3 more for the kids Christmas to have in their homes.

I've been on a search to find an audio system for my living room that wasn't going to draw attention to itself and fit in with our mid-century modern decor. I had given up hope of finding a new audio system that was simple, clean, but had a "classic" look and was about to go for a vintage receiver and speakers. I stumbled across this at Best Buy and instantly fell in love with the looks. I was a bit hesitant about the "Insignia" brand, but for $80 I was willing to give it a shot. I have been pleasantly surprised and extremely delighted with this unit. The selection of inputs and features makes this a nice simple but useful system. I have loaded up music on a 64GB nano USB thumbdrive (Sandisk makes one that is slightly larger than the USB 2 connector itself) and organized the music into folders as playlists. Although there is no rhyme or reason as to the ordering of the folders, it is nice to have the dedicated folder buttons on the remote to switch between folders. A modern day Jukebox! The Bluetooth capabilities allow me to use one of my smartphones or iPod Touch to stream internet radio stations via the Tune-in app. I greatly appreciate being able to easily stream LuxuriaMusic to this system. The Aux input works well, but I'm confused by the design decision to place the port in the front of the system rather than the back. Having a cable sticking out of the front ruins the clean look of the system. I minimized the issue by using 2 "L" 3.5mm stereo connectors together to form a "U", allowing the cable to be hidden underneath the unit. (see photo) I have an audio switchbox attached to the AUX input that allows me to channel my turntable, audio cassette deck, or TV. The FM radio tunes stations in well and the autosearch feature to set station presets seems very accurate. Audio quality is acceptable... certainly fine for an all-in-one unit. The EQ presets offer enough of a difference to make a difference. Overall, I've found the sound to improve when the volume is raised a bit. If you don't expect this thing to be something its not, I think you'll find it enjoyable too.

We bought this unit for my daughter. I liked it so much I bought one for my office. The sound is awesome--and the bass is booming! And it has some many inputs---AND it fits nicely on my shelf! It is also very classy looking---very vintage!

After reading all of the positive reviews, I decided to give this a shot. It's on sale at Augusta's one and only BB for 79.00 today. So what the heck? I need a compact sound system without all of the cables all over the place. I saw it on the shelf and it looked very retro.The front panel felt cheap and I wish they eliminated the speaker pinholes and replaced it with black speaker mesh. That would of made it look a little more rich. I looked on the bottom and saw this little tiny sub and I was like, no way is this going to hold up.Got it home, tore it out of the box. I didn't connect the FM wire antenna cause the radio stations around her suck really bad. It found my Bluetooth and connected in seconds. This thing rocks. The highs are pretty clear and the sub is doing a pretty good job of hitting the lows so far. So far I am very impressed. I listen to a lot of different types of music but I wanna hear and feel the bass and so far its doing a pretty good job.definitely a good buy. I just hope it can withstand the test of time and the serious bass tracks I'm about to hit it with. **The woofer is on the bottom and is about 4 inches in width. The system is on little risers that are about an inch high.**

After having looked around for a bookshelf speaker, I decided to buy this one and am glad I did. This one has many features which are difficult to find. First, it fits on a typical bookshelf. The design is modern and simple; it doesn't look like it was made with plastic on testosterone. The round knob to adjust the sound is easy. to use. Some of the reviews complain about the USB plug on the front, but that's because you don't have to reach around to the back to use it. The sound can be made loud. there's a speaker on the left and right and a subwoofer on the bottom.. There's an equalizer that has sets for 5 different sounds; it's accessible via the remote. The remote is rather easy to use, not too complicated. This isn't for everyone. But for a lot of people that just want decent sound, still play a few CDs, yet also play music via Bluetooth or USB and access FM radio, then this is one to consider. Oh, it also has an easy to set clock. This would look great in an office or in a bedroom or a living room. very nice.

Great sound, easy to use. Bought for my mom, she loves it. Also a very minimalist design, goes well with contemporary or MCM decor. The CD player is great for mom, but also has BT for when I go over there and want to play off my playlists.

After doing lots of research, I finally found the perfect stereo for my mother in law. She can play her CDs, listen to FM radio and even listen to Pandora via Bluetooth from her phone. She is more than happy with this unit. She had a bigger setup which had separate speakers and was too big. This unit has a decent size and it is only one piece. The sound quality is very clear and punchy. It includes a remote control to make it even better!

I was a little skeptical of the Insignia brand, but after listening to it in the store I was impressed. The sound quality of this shelf system is fantastic, aided by the fact that it has a built-in sub-woofer. FM, CD, Bluetooth, line-in and a USB port give you multiple ways to listen to your tunes. I am however, extremely puzzled as to why it does not include AM radio. I'm starting to notice this on more and more new products from other manufacturers and I hope its a trend that doesn't become the norm. Regardless, if you can live without AM radio you would do well to seriously consider this stereo.

Well, we bought this for the price. It was very reasonable. There weren't many reviews but we figured for the price it was good enough. Well good enough was surpassed with "this thing is great for the price." It has a great sound, CD player, bluetooth, and it's got a cool retro look. Its in our "extra room" and it come pretty close to my BOSE wave system I have in our livingroom. This thing is a great deal, and it is priced fairly.

The unit sounds nice and clear. I love its vintage and upscale look. Nowadays, stereo units look cheap, plasticy, and is over digitized. This is nice and clean. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because it doesn't have an AM radio, the remote could have more buttons for functions, and the unit could use another knob for tuning. One of my biggest gripes of all modern day stereos is that its not simple like it used to be. Bring back the knobs and switches. Ditch the digital touchscreen, not that this unit has that, but in general. Overall a great unit that gets loud and provides adequate bass.

I bought this for my mom. Has a cd player that plays multiple compressed audio files. Bluetooth means it works great with Pandora. Has a sub woofer built in under it for the bass. It produces pretty rich sound for the size of the unit.

the radio picks up every station in the area, remote works from anywhere in the room, cd player works great, sound is awesome, really like that it is bluetooth compatible, and I can hook up usb.

Love the sound, the makers of this stereo did a great job. It’s loud enough for my home gym. The retro look is nice too. Able to use with AUX cable, Bluetooth, play music from your USB, FM radio
