If you are wishing to connect a CD drive of some sort to the JUH470, more than likely that will not work due to power requirements of the optical drive; it is recommended to connect such heavy wattage devices directly to the computer instead. Transfer data to a flash drive utilizing the JUH470?; yes, that should work.
Q: Will this work with a HP Spectre?
A: I would assume so. I just plugged it in to my Dell XPS and it worked without any further action. BTW, the XPS is over 6 years old so I'm thinking Windows 10 knew what it is and applied the correct drivers.
Q: will this plug and play with a Linux laptop? Thanks!
A: This will depend on the version Linux you are running. 18.04 Ubuntu should be working PnP.

Excellent for increasing your laptop capacity
This is good tool to help with being able to get greater use out of my laptops. I’m using It while working at home with a laptop provided by my company and using my personal laptop which Both have limited portals. I’m now able to link a mouse, keyboard and television monitor as well as plugging into the internet directly.

Love it
I needed an adapter for my computer since there is no Ethernet port and I was also looking to have a few more usb plugs at times. This is a 2 in 1 for me and it works great.
