What first caught my eye on choosing the JBL MA510 AV 5.2 AV Receiver was the white glass face plate. It matches perfectly in our home and has a very elegant clean design. The second feature was the simplistic controls. My earlier receiver was black and had tiny buttons that were impossible to see. Now after owning the MA510 for a couple of weeks, I really appreciate how well it integrates into my home theatre using an Apple 4K streaming device and connected to our LG G4 OLED TV. The JBL perfectly powers my 5.1 Sonance speakers with 5 in-ceiling speakers and subwoofer with clean clear sound. I had Best Buy’s Geek Squad install the entire system and a brief hands-on explanation of how to use the remote was all that was needed to operate the receiver. The on-screen menu system offers simple configuration options, such as distances to speakers for calibration. It has built-in Wifi and can also connect to the internet using an ethernet jack, which is useful for updating firmware and streaming music and internet radio. The receiver’s controls basically select the various HDMI inputs, and the output options include native signal, Dolby, stereo 2.0, stereo 2.1, and all speaker stereo. The tone can be adjusted but it’s pretty basic bass and treble options. The Apple 4K streaming device is also able to control the receiver’s power. I was really impressed with how easy it was to play Spotify through the receiver, simply by installing the Spotify app on my kitchen PC and connection was made without complicated setup. The MA510 appeared as a speaker option and even the Spotify app can control the receiver’s power. It’s really amazing how simple and clean the interface works and honestly, it’s a joy to use. Again, the sound is every bit as good as any audio receiver I have ever owned, and that alone makes it a great choice. I doubt any sound bar would ever sound as good. The MA510 sits in the middle of JBL’s less expensive MA310 and the MA710 and strikes a nice balance. If you need a 7.2 system with Atmos, then the upgrade makes sense, but for my pre-wired 5-speaker surround-sound system, the MA510 was the perfect choice.

I didn’t think just the amp could change how good my speakers sound, it’s super easy to use, looks amazing and gave me no trouble setting it up, as other amps have!
