Jesse Malin - New York Before the War - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Back in March 2015 Jesse Malin returned with his first album in five years, New York Before the War, a hymn to everything Malin believes in most respecting your roots, grabbing the future by it's throat, and creating a soundtrack for a life filled with meaning. Outsiders meanwhile, recorded concurrently to that record is an altogether different beast. And Jesse is no slouch when it comes to writing either - that album's 13 tracks were pared down from close to forty songs and post it was apparent that there was a great deal of quality material left over. More significantly than that, Malin realized that the songs were thematically similar - InchOutsiders is a record built out of optimism and disgust,Inch says Jesse. InchIt's really in my own dark bubble while we were recording it. We all made a deal to stay off the phone and the net during the making of this record, and it felt good to just live in the moment - we just let it roll.Inch

CD reissue. Jerry Brandt, legendary manager of Carly Simon, found the star he was waiting for. In 1972 Bruce Wayne Campbell a.k.a. Jobriath's face was plastered across full page ads in Vogue, Penthouse, and Rolling Stone and put on posters on hundreds New York City buses. This was America's first openly gay rock star. Brandt convinced Elektra Records to book Jobriath at the Olympic Studios, the famed recording studio favored by bands like The Rolling Stones. It was within these soundproofed walled that a 55-piece orchestra accompanied Jobriath on a glam rock journey through the eleven tracks that made up his self-titled debut album. He is still admired and praised and an inspiration for fans like Morrissey, Visage and Elton John.

Japanese reissue. Universal. 2020.
