Jommelli / Mineccia / Nereydas - The Jommelli Album - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

During his lifetime, Giovanni Paisiello (1740-1816) was in fact more famous than Mozart, and his operas were veritable hits. Nowadays, it is in the hands of experts such as Florence native Filippo Mineccia to restore his unjustly neglected compositional output. With his fine countertenor voice, Mineccia presents a collection of outstanding opera arias in a recording which for sure will quickly deserve a prominent place in the shelves (or hard drives) of the many Italian Baroque opera lovers. Mineccia has found in the Lisbon-based ensemble Divino Sospiro under the direction of Massimo Mazzeo an exquisite support. Born in Florence, FIlippo Mineccia began his musical studies very early in the prestigious School of Music of Fiesole, singing in the polifonic choir. After that he continued his musical studies in cello, obtaining a degree at the Conservatory InchLuigi CherubiniInch of Florence. In that same time he also obtained a Singing degree with Gianni Fabbrini. He has worked with prestigious groups all over Europe, and has won notable prizes at renowned contests across Italy and abroad.

Hans Leo Hassler is considered one of the most significant personalities among Late Renaissance composers in the German-speaking world. A striking number of his works have been published as printed editions early on, for instance in 1590, when he only was aged 24, the InchCanzonette a quatro vociInch in Nuremberg and one year later in Augsburg the InchCantiones sacraeInch, where among others the motets Dixit Maria and Beata es virgo Maria as well as the Magnificat octavi toni have first been released. In his Missa octo vocum, the mass for eight-part double choir, Hassler follows the sequence of the Catholic mass with it's six parts that comprise it's ordinary Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei. The Ensemble Vox Archangeli is directed by bassist Manuel Schuen, who is also performing on the Sieber-organ at St. Michael's Church in Vienna.
