Keely Smith was one of the most distinctive and multi-talented performers of the 1950s and '60s, combining a vocal versatility with an innate sense of comedy, which she used to good effect using her trademark deadpan style in stage and TV performances with her husband Louis Prima, with whom she also made some fine jazz, R&B and pop records, including the Grammy Award-winning InchThat Old Black MagicInch in 1959, winner of Best Performances By A Vocal Group. She was a fine jazz singer, with a sense of swing and timing that placed her alongside the best of her peers, but she was equally at home performing sophisticated pop material with an orchestra, and this collection provides the opportunity to hear her in both environments. This great-value 80-track 3-CD set comprises selected recordings with Louis Prima's Orchestra for the Mercury, Capitol and Dot labels from her 1949 debut with his band through to 1961, when they were divorced, and selected solo recordings for Capitol and Dot accompanied by the orchestras of Billy May, Nelson Riddle and others from 1956 through to 1962. It includes the chart hits with Louis Prima, InchThat Old Black MagicInch, InchThe Bigger The FigureInch, InchI've Got You Under My SkinInch and InchBei Mir Bist Du SchonInch. It's a fine showcase for her talent and style during what was one of the most productive and important eras of her career.

Marielle V Jakobsons has cultivated a signature voice molded by minimalist, ambient and spiritual traditions. Her recordings, from her early work with Date Palms, to the ongoing work with Chuck Johnson in Saariselka, and most definitively with The Patterns Lost to Air, show Jakobsons to be an exceptionally skillful sound sculptor, a musician who knows the value of patience and control. An artist able to derive maximum impact from her chosen sound elements, the album's layout is shaped by three primary voices of violin, Fender Rhodes, and Moog Matriarch and was recorded in 2024 in the studio Jakobsons built in Oakland, California, it's huge windows overlooking a backyard with olive and palm trees, nesting towhees and hummingbirds.

Ira and Charlie Louvin (they were cousins of country singer/songwriter John D. Loudermilk) were a powerful and distinctive force in country music through the '50s until their break-up in 1963, their music firmly rooted in their Southern Baptist upbringing, although they achieved huge success as long-time Grand Ole Opry members and with secular hits like InchCash On The BarrelheadInch, InchWhen I Stop DreamingInch, InchRunning WildInch and the No. 1 InchI Don't Believe You've Met My BabyInch. With Ira's trademark mandolin and their extraordinary blend of voices, they were among the genre's most individual stylists, and influenced many later artists, such as The Everly Brothers, whose vocal harmonies very much echo those of The Louvin Brothers, and others including Gram Parsons and The Byrds - The Byrds recorded the Louvins' InchThe Christian LifeInch. This collection captures the flavour and progression of their music from their recording debut through to their break-up in 1963, occasioned by Ira's heavy drinking and violently unpredictable behaviour, which belied his deep religious convictions. It comprises their most successful singles, with a dozen country hits, plus material drawn from their other A & B sides and from their themed concept albums for Capitol.
