Lanterns on the Lake follow up 2020's Mercury Prize nominated Spook the Herd with their self-produced fifth studio album, Versions of Us. Radiohead's Philip Selway joined the band to provide drums and percussion after the departure of Oliver Ketteringham. The nine songs on Versions Of Us are existential meditations examining life's possibilities; facing the hand we've been dealt and the question of whether we can change our individual and collective destinies. Singer and songwriter Hazel Wilde has no doubt that motherhood fundamentally shifted her perspective. More than any other artist to emerge from the fertile black metal scene of the early '90s, Ihsahn has firmly established himself as an unpredictable maverick. Ihsahn's unique approach and liberated musical ethos ensured that when he embarked on a solo career, fans were primed to expect the unexpected. InchWith this , I wanted to dig deep into the core essentials of my musical background; black/extreme-metal and my love of orchestral music and soundtracks. I approached the writing with the intent to present the material in it's full-blown metal expression, but also to arrange the orchestral parts in such a way that they would work independently. Somehow an attempt to write a soundtrack within the structures of the full production, allowing me to explore different, and sometimes contrasting, variations of essentially the same music.Inch In line with the cinematic inspirations, music and lyrics follow two parallel narratives with recurring themes throughout. The main story is presented in the metal version, whereas the secondary story is rooted in the orchestral version, although bleeding into the main story.

A Hum Of Maybe is detailed, finely crafted, and wonderfully unpredictable. At it's core, the record is about love - for himself, his wife, and his daughter - and holding onto it, protecting it, and constantly recalibrating as it is in a constant state of flux. As the title suggests, the songs explore being stuck in between not a clear yes or no, but A Hum Of Maybe. Ring elegantly combines the perspectives of an electronic producer and a classical composer, working closely with long-time collaborators Philipp Johann Thimm (cello, piano, guitar) - who also co-wrote and co-produced the record - Christoph InchMäckieInch Hamann (violin, keyboard, bass), Jörg Wähner (drums), and Christian Kohlhaas (trombone). The album also features Armenian-American artist KÁRYYN - Apparat's Mute labelmate - on 'Tilth', and Berlin-and Rome-based musician Jan- Philipp Lorenz (aka Bi Disc) on 'Pieces, Falling'. A Hum Of Maybe is complex, deeply personal, and embraces a state of limbo, marking an exciting new chapter for Apparat.
