Lanterns on the Lake follow up 2020's Mercury Prize nominated Spook the Herd with their self-produced fifth studio album, Versions of Us. Radiohead's Philip Selway joined the band to provide drums and percussion after the departure of Oliver Ketteringham. The nine songs on Versions Of Us are existential meditations examining life's possibilities; facing the hand we've been dealt and the question of whether we can change our individual and collective destinies. Singer and songwriter Hazel Wilde has no doubt that motherhood fundamentally shifted her perspective. The Plural of Yes reveals Homuth to be a connoisseur of timeless Pop craftsmanship distilling the heady years of AM-radio splendor, from Bacharach to the Beatles, into 13 addicting Indie-Pop coated pills. The chilling strings that escort the coda of the album's deceptively dark opening track, 'Everyone Deserves to Love', gently foreshadow Almost Charlie's love affair with smart, sweeping orchestration. This orchestration is put on full display in the subsequent piano-led track, 'Love Condensed', an elegant 3/4-metered ballad that deftly demonstrates the warmth and charm of Homuth's voice.
