Lars-Erik Rosell - In Between - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Erik Palmberg writes InchI grew up in a musical family. My father played trumpet and French horn and I was exposed to jazz and improvisation from an early age. I didn't have the motivation to continue with the trumpet so I decided to quit when I was 12 years old. Much later on, in my twenties, the need of playing music and trumpet grew too strong. While I was working as an aupair in the French alps, at age 21, I had a lot of spare time. I decided to give the trumpet a try once more so I started to practice and became hooked. Maybe I needed to do different stuff for a few years. After a couple of years of studies I was accepted at the Royal College of music in Stockholm. The great Peter Asplund was my trumpet teacher at the College. I started playing in different projects at the school but also gigs around Stockholm. My last year of studies was done at the Jazz -Institut -Berlin as an erasmus student. I got to have some great teachers and fellow students there. One of my inspiring teachers was of course my main trumpet professor Gerard Presencer. Since I finished my studies in 2010 I have had the opportunity to play with a lot of prominent jazz artists and interesting projects in Sweden but also around Europe, especially in Germany where I have done several tours. In 2018 I released my debut album First Lines (recorded 2017, Stockholm Jazz Records). In December 2021 I will my second album, In Between.Inch

The First Krop is a live set from the early days of the infamous Kottonmouth Kings. Recorded in 1997 at the Subject To Change radio show in San Diego, CA hosted by Al Guerra.

Multifaceted tonal colours, virtuosity, and a field of tension between ruptures and connections characterize the music of Turgut Ercetin. In particular, he illuminates the in-between spaces in a wide variety of dimensions. As Paul Griffiths explains in the booklet, the composer explores Inchthe space between instruments or groups, between harmony and noise [...], between spectra, between what is played and what resounds from the performance space.InchAt the center of the album lies the cycle InchDas Phonem zwischen zwei WorternInch (InchThe Phoneme Between Two WordsInch). The largest part, (b), draws on one of Turgut Ercetin's research fields vanished architecture, here referring to two demolished Byzantine buildings. In this work, the SWR Symphony Orchestra as a modern orchestra meets a Baroque ensemble with musicians from the ELISION Ensemble. However, the two formations do not appear as opposites but as mutually interacting seeds. The smaller pieces (a) and (c) function as fanfare and epilogue they condense the themes of fusion and separation, ultimately leading the ELISION musicians back to modern instruments.Ensemble Musikfabrik is featured in two works on this album InchResonances (b)Inch and InchThousand Dead Bodies Under My Bed, All Cloaked with the Breath of the LivingInch. The latter recalls how the past continues to live on - in art, in memory, in trauma. Within three interlaced ensembles, an interplay unfolds characteristics drift from one group to another, while the very nature of the piece as a whole gradually shifts.
