J Mascis - What Do We Do Now - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

What Do We Do Now is the fifth solo studio LP recorded by J Mascis since 1996. Using his own Bisquiteen Studio in the waning days of the pandemic, J started working on writing a series of tunes on acoustic with a different dynamic than the stuff he creates for Dino. InchWhen I'm writing for the band,Inch he says, InchI'm always trying to think of doing things Lou and Murph would fit into. Usually, I try to do the solo stuff more simply so I can play it by myself, but I really wanted to add the drums. Once that started, everything else just fell into place. So it ended up sounding a lot more like a band record.Inch Western Mass local Ken Mauri (of the B52s) plays piano on several tracks, while Toronto musician Matthew InchDocInch Dunn's steel guitar manages to both widen and soften the musical edges of the music, giving it a full classicist profile. What Do We Do Now is the finest set of solo tunes J has yet penned, and the way they're presented is just about perfect.

Leanne Betasamosake Simpson - Live Like The Sky - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Renowned Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg musician and author Leanne Betasamosake Simpson returns with Live Like The Sky, the highly anticipated follow up to her Polaris Music Prize short-listed album Theory Of Ice (2021). Born in struggle, and written in response to a world engulfed in wild-fire smoke, fascism, colonialism, and hetero-patriarchy, the album draws surprising influence from formative alternative musics (The Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain, Depeche Mode) in combination with a vital Anishinaabe worldview to create a fugitive space of re-worlding and affirmation. Here are complex nuanced shorelines, where a newly developed alternative pop musical sensibility provides a counterpoint to lyrics of resistance and a powerfully emergent creative process. Working towards a reclamation of land, language, sonics, and possibility, Live Like The Sky records an expansion of imagination and relationship.

Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki - Into the Cold - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Bringing fresh energy to traditional Celtic music, Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki has been performing solo and collaborating with numerous bands around the Northeastern USA and Ireland for nearly two decades. Though he often takes the fiddle into genres where it's rarely seen, Jordan is recognized by the New Hampshire Traditional Arts Council as a Master Artist, and traditional Celtic music will always have special place in his heart and in his performances. His latest album, Into the Cold, is comprised of original songs deeply rooted in the Celtic tradition but made unique by influences from other genres and supported on many tracks by a full rock band. Jordan was one of the founding members of JamAntics ('Best Jam Band' NH Magazine, 2010, 'Best Original Band' The Hippo, 2011) and currently plays most frequently with the Dusty Gray Band (DustyGray) in addition to his own trio. With various groups, he has opened for Irish music legends Tommy Makem and Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfetones, country superstars such as Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels and Uncle Kracker, and classic rockers Blues Traveler, The Marshall Tucker Band and Little Feat. He has toured nationally with the Adam Ezra Group (winner of five New England Music Awards including 'Band of The Year') and appeared as a guest musician with other nationally touring bands including Yarn, The Lost Trailers, Roots of Creation and Hot Day At The Zoo. He is a member of the house band at Rocking Horse Studio ('Best Recording Studio', NH Magazine, 2012) and can be heard on dozens of recordings including projects with Garth Hudson of The Band. Highlight gigs have included several NH governor's inaugural receptions, Irish pubs from Clare to Donegal, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., as well as hundreds of appearances at barn dances, rock concerts, farmer's markets, folk festivals, weddings, private pa
