About this product
Lee Bains III & Glory Fires Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Battletapes with engineer Jeremy Ferguson and producer Tim Kerr, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires' Youth Detention captures the band in raw form. Each song was cut live to tape, with the four performing in the same room without headphones or baffling. The result is thoroughly human, Lynn Bridges' mix retaining the band's live energy and looseness at the expense of a few out of tune strings. The Glory Fires music draws deeply from punk, but also soul, power pop, country, and gospel. It's equal parts careful curation and geographic inheritance.

Singer-songwriter and composer, Kate Stables returns with a wondrous new This Is the Kit album, Careful of Your Keepers, that chronicles a world of mistakes and mishaps, cruel circumstances, and universe-driven surprises. It's a record that embraces the concept of outrospection - the idea that you get to know oneself by developing relationships and empathic thinking with others - and brings the Paris-based, UK born bandleader's signature ability to move swiftly between cryptic poetry to honest inquisition to the fore. Guiding the ship through changing seas is producer Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), who deftly enhances the innate shared language that Stables has with her band, capturing beautiful instrumental performances while leaving the space required for her robust, silken voice to lead. The music here is daring and soft, cutting and warm, a wild feat of complexity and combined dispositions. Surviving change is a constant throughout this record and This Is the Kit takes us to the front lines in InchMore Change,Inch where we celebrate the losing battle of fighting change with barbed dancing lyrics that whisk us from the mundane to the massive as a steady beat and delicate guitars wind in and out, down and around Stables words Inchlight bulb / life changing / found a friend... claw sanity back again.Inch The sonic brilliance always comes back to bite and the cascading melodies of InchStuck In A RoomInch plant the listener in the most familiar of recent quandaries, wanting to leave but being unable to. There are so many versions of InchleavingInch one might be attracted to in this disappointing modern age, and Stables works through them all. Conflict hits hard and with surprise but have the right people around you and you can escape by the skin of your teeth.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Includes . While the Glory Fires have spent a decade propagating what the New York Times calls 'pandemonium with a conscience,' they've long talked about wanting to make a classic record - not a transparent document of their playing live with the occasional embellishment - but a record. So, that's what they did. They contacted Athens, Georgia's David Barbe, whose work with the Drive-By Truckers, Sugar, Son Volt, Vic Chesnutt and countless other artists has earned him a legendary reputation amongst Southern independent rockers, and they agreed to set about bringing this vision to fruition. While tackling such lofty political, historical and philosophical concepts, the album is also the band's most intimate, vulnerable and spiritual to date. The perspective is both outward- and inward-facing, Bains never taking on the persona or experience of others, but rather writing about the way his own limited experience and perspective of the band's place can lift the veils of false narratives, and uncover 'piles of winding stories' through time. In an age characterized by individualism, and at a time when the past seems to be the sole domain of the status quo, Old-Time Folks illustrates the deep, thick, tangled roots of liberation, collectivism, mutuality and solidarity in the Deep South, and where they are flowering and bringing forth fruit today.
