About This Item

This brand new plastic model kit features the Tiger I "Early Version" Tank with two scheme options at Level 3 in 1/35 scale, produced by Airfix. The kit comes in vintage-style, officially licensed packaging and contains over 200 detailed parts molded primarily in light brown, unless otherwise indicated. A display stand is not included, and paint and cement are required for assembly. Decals are provided to create two different schemes, with the assembled model measuring approximately 9.48 inches in length and 4.01 inches in width. The Tiger I Early Production Version was Germany’s response to the increasingly armored Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks on the Eastern Front, introduced in late 1942. It featured an 88mm KwK 36 L/56 gun capable of destroying enemy tanks at extreme ranges and thick frontal armor up to 100mm, providing a significant advantage in head-on combat. Early versions included distinctive elements such as rubber-rimmed road wheels, a drum-style cupola, and Feifel air filters for dusty environments like North Africa. The Tiger I made its combat debut during the Siege of Leningrad and saw large-scale deployment in Tunisia with the 501st Heavy Panzer Battalion. Despite initial mechanical issues due to its complexity and weight, it quickly earned a fearsome reputation, particularly on the Eastern Front in battles such as Kharkov and Kursk, where its long-range gun dominated open terrain. Commanders like Michael Wittmann became famous for their exploits, and early production variants were later used in Italy and Western Europe following the Allied invasion of Normandy. While Allied and Soviet forces developed tactics and weapons to counter it, the Tiger I remained a formidable opponent until gradually replaced by the Tiger II and other late-war armored vehicles. This 1:35 scale model captures extraordinary detail, including Feifel air filters, the early-style turret, and rubber-rimmed road wheels, offering a historically accurate tribute for collectors and diorama enthusiasts.
