When I bought my laptop it did not come with CD/DVD drive and I wanted something that could not only read and write CDs, but one that I could also play my movies on. Not only does it do all of the above, but it will also play blu ray movies. The LG player works very well and it comes with excellent software called CyberLink Media Suite, which allows you to organize, play, edit, burn and share. For movies, it allows you to play 3D movies and you can also use an adjustment to enlarge the movie if you need to focus in on a scene in a movie. The downside is that the USB cable is only 2 or 3 feet long, but otherwise it is an excellent product.

Having recently upgraded my Lenovo laptop (5 years old) to a Lenovo Yoga 2/1, our newest tablet offered significant features well above what we had, but lacked a DVD burner. What to do? After exploring various burner/player offerings, we chose the LG 16x burner-player. It's feature rich (see type of disc's playable), disc playback is reasonably quiet, and hook-up is as simple as 1,2,3. It is certainly not the least expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for i.e. excellent value in my opinion. If you are in the market for an external add-on burner/player, do not overlook LG's 16x player based on price alone. This burner/player's playback and burner capabilities set it, in my opinion, place it on the top of your shopping list.

Purchased to be able to view Blu Ray discs and write CD's for data faster than what came on the computer. Unbelievable quality and simple plug and play. Cant believe how fast this will write CD's. Truly worth the money.

I bought this to augment the optical drive in my Dell laptop. I had to download the latest drivers for my video card in order to play BluRay discs, which it now does flawlessly. I have only had the exterior drive for about six weeks but I am, so far, very pleased. I also am happy with the PowerDvd software that came bundled in disc form with the drive.

LG - 16x External Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive This is a good item and so far I am happy with the purchase. I wouldn't exactly call it a "plug-n-play" item; however, a quick call to customer service helped. The added software is a big plus! I am running windows 10 on a HP Spectre 360. I have played CD, DVD and Blu-Ray without any issues. I purchased "Verbatim BD-R 25gb 6x speed" disks and so far they are working great with the drive. I have been told that they will also take the BDRXL (100gb) disks as well. This drive seemed like the best choice out of the others. The price was a bit high...but so far I am happy with spending the extra to save headaches.

I bought this drive to go with a laptop that didn't have an optical drive. The computer is part of my home entertainment system which is why I wanted an external Blu-ray drive. I have used this pretty much every day since I got it and is everything I hoped for. Quiet, reliable and great picture. Not sure about the software it came with. Works well, but seems a bit bloated.

On sale price plus the step up to BLU-Ray made this a great purchase. The Blu-Ray recorder discs hold 6x times the amount of data as a DVD+/- R. Even more if you move up to the DL versions of the blank discs. Excellent for my needs. Will buy another one of these, especially during..."Black Friday"!

I was looking for a Blu-Ray DVD recorder to create DVD archives. The LG was favorably reviewed online, and it has delivered for my use. The unit is quiet and fairly quick. It does have a larger footprint than I would prefer, but I will trade the size for strong performance. I have not been disappointed.

This works very well and can successfully read and copy data from discs that was not possible before in other writers. The bundled software is okay but was lacking from what I was use to. This unit is also very quite.

It's the second time that I buy this burner; the other worked just fine but I recorded so many BDs so I think just stop burning after many discs burned. Great performance, it works with any media DVD or BD.

Bought this to replace a failed LG BE14NU40 blu ray burner. It seems to be finicky with 50GB blank media. I have a 50% success rate with Optical Quantum media and 100% success rate with Panasonic media. I was hoping for 4K disc support, but current firmware doesn't support it.

This DVD/Blu-Ray burner has been great. Installation was a snap and the software installed perfectly. I haven't burned a Blu-ray yet but DVDs have burned without a problem. One thing though, the supplied cable is so short as to be almost useless. You'll want to buy a longer one but make sure it is a USB Type 3 , A to B cable as the manual doesn't tell you this. A Type 2 A to B won't work.

My optical drives on my 2008 Mac Pro tower were starting to give problems, ( I burn a lot of DVD's for photography clients), and so I bought this and a cheaper slower LG writer. First plugged it into my usb 2.0 port and my Mac recognized right away. Played a DVD and burned one, no problems. Then plugged it into my Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 PCIe 4-port card. Recognized. Played a Blu-Ray DVD and it worked fine, (I used some free Blu-Ray software). Have not tried to write any Blu-Ray yet, but burned a few DVDs without a hitch. It writes faster then my original optical drives. My 2017 17" HP Envy has a built in optical drive, but I just wanted to see if it would recognize this LG player, and it did. Plays standard DVDs, I don't have any bluray software on the Envy. Works great so far and I have not yet used it to its full potential. The way cheaper LG Ultra Slim worked fine also, of course no Blur ray and it is slower. But if you do not need all the features of the Blu ray drive, then go with the cheaper model.

I replaced my desktop PC and my Surface Pro 4 tablet with a Surface Book and docking station. I needed a Blu-ray burner for action cam movies and this works great. Burns at 16x, very fast.

I have over 4,600 cds in my music collection, and I'm cataloging my music, and the album artwork and other information associated with each disc. This LG BlueRay Burner has been a trooper since disc 1. Sorry I can't write the same for my computer everything is being stored on.

Good quality and features. Just would like to have it in smaller size.

This is the Cadillac of External Cd/DVD RW-players. This does it all and quickly and quietly. This by no means can be easily portable for it has a large footprint. It has the ability to play and write on many platforms. I was disappointed that the software included Cyber link media suite Version 10 was outdated for version 14 is now out. With this said it is still worth the money and does a terrific job on all levels.

I bought this unit 2 1/2 years ago. I have burned a few Blu-ray dvd's and over 300 single and double layer dvd's. if it dies I will buy it again.
