Q: Does this drive get AC power to run ?
A: It needs to be plugged into an ac outlet.
A: Obviously no one has tried to burn to a BDXL M-Disc. I bought this unit for archiving important files to M-Disc media. First time out the gate with some Verbatim BDXL M-DISC media (100Gb). Only recognized the discs at being 25Gb... upgraded the firmware to V1.02 for "additional media support". Rebooted, then it recognized the media as 100Gb. Tried to burn files to the media. Got an error saying media was not compatible. Called LG Tech Support... They told me the drive only supports single layer BDXL media at 25Gb. Loaded another disc and it was back to only recognizing it as 25Gb media. This thing is a scam with regard to its ability to use M-Disc media. If you are hoping to burn 100Gb M-DISC media (much less 128Gb) to archive all those precious home movies, forget it. It ain't happening. What's most frustrating is that the box that it comes in says it supports 128Gb media and M-DISC media, blah blah blah. Its all hype. I'm going to give LG tech support one more chance to come up with a solution or this junker is going back to Best Buy.
Q: Is this drive bootable? I still have bootable CD-ROM and DVD-ROM disks.
A: Hi {atrick. Check the booting options in your BIOS, it gives you options to boot from CD, Hardrive, USB etc., You can use the LG External Blu-ray/DVD Writer 3D Blu-ray Disc Playback & M-DISC™ Support, Model # BE16NU50 as a bootable drive...^IFV
Q: can the lg be16nu50 blu-ray writer connect to an outdoor movie projector?
A: As the device only has a usb connector; I doubt it. You also need a pc for the playback software. It would be better for you to just buy a regular blu-ray player.

A: I have an iMac (late 2013 version) and it works great with it! I use the program "Toast Titanium" to burn my CDs, DVDs and Blu Ray discs.

The Host Interface for this unit is a USB 2.0 (480Mbits/s) , USB 3.0 (5Gbits/s) and its system requirements for the CPU are an Intel@Pentium D 3.2GHz or Higher (with USB 2.0). The Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz or higher is recommended. The HDD for the computer that you connect it to must have at least 30GB or more of available space (60GB for Blu-ray Disc authoring), 1 GB or higher of RAM and the recommended nVidia Graphic Cards are the GeForce 7600GT or higher / GeForce 8400 or higher (Graphic Card Driver shall meet AACS compliance criteria), and the ATI Graphic Cards, ATI Radeon HD 2400 or higher (Graphic Card Driver shall meet AACS compliance criteria)...^IFV
