About this product
Following his two acclaimed recordings featuring works by Chopin and Schumann, Bulgarian-born Pianist Martin Ivanov now takes a chance in producing an album dedicated to Franz Liszt, presenting his presumably most prominent work for piano solo, the Sonata in B minor S 178. This monumental work, which formally consists of only one movement, ever since has provided some space for speculations on whether it carries any programmatic content; many find in those three different musical thematic strains a representation of the figures of the Faust legend Faust, Gretchen and Mephisto. As a matter of fact, Liszt did in this case not append or utter any such programmatic intent. Furthermore, this features as a brilliant opener the Two Concert Etudes S 145 (Waldesrauschen and Gnomenreigen) and as a vigorous finish the Grandes études de Paganini, S 141.

From the turn of the millennium, 'Pennsylvania' was the eleventh studio album from this uncompromising and influential group, presenting their dark take on pop music. This edition is newly remixed by David Thomas in 2021 and reissued on Fire Records. InchEveryone talked about our artiness and our unlikeableness, people completely ignored for decades me saying, 'We're a pop band'. Inch David Thomas. With 'Pennsylvania,' Pere Ubu welcome you to a barely recognisable secret country drawn out of it's own spectral geography... This is much more than just music. ![Liszt / Giltburg - Etudes D'execution Transcendante - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/3474b2b5-2691-46f2-9b5c-243c03f9ee89.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Liszt's Etudes d'execution transcendante enshrine the spirit of High Romanticism, embodying extremes of expressive drama and technical virtuosity. His encyclopedic approach to technique is shown at it's most dazzling in this cycle, heard here in the 1852 revision which Liszt himself declared 'the only authentic one.' Integration of musical and technical elements is absolute, and the music's narratives are supported by dramatic physicality, an orchestral richness of sonority, and an exceptional coloristic quality. The young Moscow-born Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg is lauded across the globe as a deeply sensitive, insightful and compelling musician. Born in 1984 in Moscow, he moved to Tel Aviv at an early age, studying with his mother and then with Arie Vardi. He went on to win numerous awards, most recently the Second Prize at the Rubinstein Competition in 2011, and in 2013 he won First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, catapulting his career to a new level.
