About this product

Long Tall Deb and Colin John combine a genre-bending and refreshingly original sound on their new VizzTone EP STREETS OF MUMBAI. The richly-textured layers on these four tracks incorporate world influence with a soul-blues base picked up on their travels throughout India, Nepal, Hawaii and the American South. Together with a whip-smart band Nate Hollman, organ; Melvin Powe, bass; and Jo El and Brandon Pettiford on drums, they have created forward-thinking, next-generation music crowned with an old soul. The title track, inspired by their recent trip to India, is summed up in the line InchNo better way to wake up than a rickshaw ride at 4 a.m. on the streets of MumbaiInch. The sound is complemented by the merging of eastern influence and American Blues that is as hypnotic as it is unique. InchJailhouseInch is a cheeky contemporary rocking soul and Motown-influenced number about the non negotiable's in relationships. InchHole In My HeartInch is a classic rocker-in-the-making that warns the listener about the consequences of causing the recipient grief. InchShine That Song Like Gold,Inch a collaboration with Grammy-winning lyricist Terry Abrahamson, tells the story of the fabled InchlostInch Robert Johnson song. The sound is best described as the collective offspring of Tom Waits, Martha & The Vandellas, Motown Rhythm Section, Keith Richards and Billy Gibbons (with David Lynch and Jim Jarmusch filming.) Streets of Mumbai was produced and engineered by Michael Landolt (Maroon 5, O.A.R) at Curry House Records.

Thomson / Lang / Wu / Krakaue / Evans /Sachs - Continuum Portrait - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Synthetic Waltzes (1925) is a charming legacy of those years. A stylized society waltz, it is full of subtle misbehavior, such as at the opening and conclusion, where Thomson creates the impression of two waltz tempos heard simultaneously. Other works of this period, especially his Gertrude Stein song settings, display a serious whimsy that time has not tarnished. A third opera, Lord Byron, occupied much of there making 1960s. From the later 1970s, Thomson's production tapered off, except in an area that fascinated him throughout his career, the musical InchPortraitsInch of his friends and acquaintances. Despite increasing health problems, he composed sporadically until shortly before his death on 30th September, 1989.

In Tall Buildings - Driver - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In stark contrast to the dense polyrhythms echoed by his former group NOMO's albums, Driver uses a relatively simple palette to create spacious pop songs, leaving plenty of room for Hall's often Peter Gabriel-esque vocals to shine. The music is powerful in it's restrained simplicity, and a compelling foil to the haunting gravity of his vocal performance. Never rushed, his melodies deliver elliptical lyrics that manage to feel intimate, while retaining a sense of mystery.
