About this product

SOMM Recordings is honored to one of the last recordings made by the much-loved and admired soprano Sally Silver before her death at the age of 51 in 2018. Silver's third on SOMM, La vie d'une rose returns to the evocatively perfumed songs of Jules Massenet following 2015's well-received Les amoureuses sont des folles. Accompanied again by the renowned conductor- pianist Richard Bonynge - who also provides a moving, specially written tribute - she is joined by the mezzo-soprano Christine Tocci on six duets. The 25 (of Massenet's 285) mélodies heard here offer a marked contrast to the familiar image of the composer's famed operatic credentials. As Massenet expert Hervé Oléon says in his authoritative booklet notes InchMassenet, the song composer, was, in his own words, rather more at home in salons - this 'bourgeois artist at the fireside' as he liked to describe himselfInch. Embracing a multitude of emotions, sacred and profane, these songs employ wide-ranging forms and a broad musical palette to always captivating ends while also revealing a composer perpetually developing, keen to experiment and looking towards the future. La vie d'une rose is produced by the late soprano's husband Jeremy Silver (Director of the Opera School at the University of Cape Town) who also provides the translation of Hervé Oléon's booklet notes. Of Sally Silver's previous releases with SOMM, her first volume of Massenet songs, Les amoureuses sont des folles (SOMMCD 0151), received the coveted Orphée d'or from L'Académie du disque lyrique and was a Recording of the Month for MusicWeb International, who described it as InchA pure delight... TNT - Intuition (Special Deluxe Collector's Edition) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Digitally remastered edition. Includes 16 page full colour booklet with 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork with previously unseen photos and new interviews - they may not be a household name but a section of hard rock fans hold TNT in the highest of regards. That they never sold millions or hardly made a dent in the US charts does not appear to have diminished their stature in the eyes of those that have been exposed to their majestic brand of grandiose rock. Indeed, the more the band's small but select following continues to champion their legacy, the more their reputation appears to be enhanced. 'Intuition' was the highly anticipated follow-up to their previous album, the universally applauded 'Tell No Tales' and continued to attract accolades. With all eyes on a triumphant follow-up album, the band made a concerted effort to drill down deep and concoct a record rich in melody and hard rockin' goodness. Once again, producer Bjørn Nessjø was in the driving seat and helped to extract tremendous performances, honing in on serious riffs and helping both guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø and vocalist Tony Harnell pull out all the stops. With songs such as 'Caught Between The Tigers', 'Forever Shine On', and the title track, it was clear that the band had used their time wisely working hard to finely hone their style. Whilst 'Intuition, issued in early 1989, hit the spot creatively, the commercial impact of the album faltered and despite gallant headline touring plans in the US and Japan, momentum wasn't sufficient to propel the band to a higher level of achievement. Nonetheless, TNT's legacy was now cast in stone and, not surprisingly, the band's reputation has continued to grow and resonate louder than ever. Album Tracks 1. A Nation Free (Intro) 2. Caught Between the Tigers 3. Tonight I'm Falling 4. End of the Line 5. Intuition 6. Forever Shine on 7. Learn to L

Various Artists - Rose - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Dr. Kristina Nikolic writes InchEven though I follow Don Menza whenever he is on tour in Europe and have witnessed the magic of his concerts countless times, never have I believed that recording an album could be such a relaxing, loving and seemingly effortless occasion. After a couple of weeks on the road, this quartet managed once again (in less than four hours) to preserve on tape what they had been doing together on the bandstand for many years playing jazz that will touch any soul that is willing to listen. Together with Oliver Kent, Johannes Strasser and Bernd Reiter, all amazing musicians themselves, a self-confessed hopeless romantic Don Menza succeeded, with exceptional honesty, to record eight songs which reflect his beliefs. In this age of Jazz where the brain is often more important than the heart, this album stands out for it's ability to break your heart, make you laugh, make you feel cool, brave, to energize and inspire you.Inch
