About this product

Exciting perceptual shifts await the listener, presented here on the new Genuin CD by the Duo Lontano Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, suspended in a reverie, and the youthful-bubbly String Octet, which the composer himself arranged for black and white keys and four hands. The colorful images become transformed into dramatic black-and-white pictures and the structures emerge differently and more contoured than in the original version - particularly in the way the sensitive and excellently matched pianists Babette Hierholzer and Jürgen Appell - the Duo Lontano - embrace the tender romanticism of the works. Highly fascinating insights into the composer's workshop! Album Tracks 1. Octet in E-Flat Major, Op. 20 2. I. Allegro Moderato Ma Con Fuoco 3. II. Andante 4. III. Scherzo Allegro Leggiero 5. IV. Presto 6. Overture InchThe HebridesInch in B Major, Op. 26 7. Sonata Movement in G minor 8. Song Without Words in E-Flat Major, Op. 67, 1 9.

Franz Schubert was deeply attached to the piano! You can sense this when you hear Robert Franz' magnificent transcription of Schubert's quartet Death and the Maiden, with which the duo Lontano (Babette Hierholzer and Jürgen Appell) open their second GENUIN album. In a recording that exclusively features Schubert's music, the structures and the relentlessness of the work are mercilessly and yet beautifully sculpted in all their grandeur. Suddenly the quartet is very similar to the great F minor Fantasy, while the Notturno, originally for piano trio, is given a new sense of levitation. A great ensemble, two wonderful pianists, three summits of chamber music! Duo Lontano was founded in 2004. The two artists can look back on years of successful concertizing on extended tours to Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Poland, and the USA. Recent concert highlights have included appearances in Wurzburg, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Palermo, White Plains, and Petropolis. Album Tracks 1. String Quartet No. 14 in D minor D. 810 InchDeath and the MaidenInch 2. Notturno in E-Flat Major, D. 897 3. Fantasia in F minor, D. 940/Op. 103
