Absolutely perfect! I bought the Surface Pro 12” Keyboard with Slim Pen (Violet) to go with my new Surface Pro, and it has been the perfect match. The keyboard is very responsive and comfortable to type on, with a smooth touchpad that makes navigation easy. The violet color looks beautiful and really makes the whole setup stand out. The Slim Pen is a huge plus—it attaches magnetically and charges right on the keyboard, so I never have to worry about losing or forgetting to charge it. The pen feels natural to write with and is great for taking notes, sketching, or editing documents. What I really like is how the keyboard easily snaps on and off, instantly turning the Surface from a laptop into a tablet. I really love the color, it’s calming. The sound of the keys is satisfying but not loud enough to distract nearby people. It’s very easy to snap on to my tablet and detach. I love how slim and light it is because I can take it to school with my notebooks and binders and it fits right in there without catching on things like a regular keyboard would. Also it’s cordless, obviously, but that REALLY makes a difference. I use it for my college classes, primarily note-taking if I am using digital materials and don’t have a pen and paper at the ready, and viewing my assignments online. I also use a lot of Google apps like the calendar, docs, sheets, etc and the keyboard is great for typing in the bulk of the stuff and then using the stylus for any additional things that a keyboard doesn’t primarily use. The stylus is super simple to use and is magnetic so I don’t have to worry about losing it because it sticks to the tablet. The only issue I’ve had so far is when I turned the pen on the first time to write something down, a window kept popping up but I’m sure that’s just tutorials, syncing, updates and whatnot.

Great keyboard only made for the Microsoft Surface Pro 12”. I am coming from a Microsoft Surface Go 2 paired with the official Surface Keyboard, and this keyboard for the Surface Pro 12” is much better. Microsoft really should just include the keyboard given the price of the Surface Pro 2 itself. The keys are responsive, have a nice feel to them, much better than my previous Surface Go keyboard. The trackpad is also pretty big and you can left and right click like you can with a traditional mouse. The keyboard connects magnetically and stays on as it must use a pretty strong magnet. It stays on too. The keyboard also then acts to protect the screen when closed, and actually stays closed. This is a really nice design. I would say if anyone is buying the Surface Pro 12 with any intention of using it as an actual computer then an actual tablet needs a keyboard. Windows 11 doesn’t quite cut it as an all the time operating system just with a touch screen. Now, this product comes with the pen too, adding to the cost. I am an artist, and this is my first time having a pen that is not made by Wacom that really feels good to draw with. The Surface Pro 12” is just about the smallest size you would go if you are thinking of actually drawing with it. It is very pressure sensitive and very nice to draw with. I draw with the Sketchbook Pro app and it is a dream to draw with this pen. The pen is rechargeable, and it magnetically sticks to the back of the Surface Pro 12 into a groove shaped like the pen. This is also where the pen gets charged by the Surface, so it is always ready to go. Now, if you are not an artist, this pen is not totally necessary and possibly might annoy you as it doesn’t quite sit flush with the rest of the back of the Surface. This isn’t a big thing most of the time, but I am always afraid it will get loose in my backpack. Not a big deal but maybe something worth mentioning. The back of the surface will not lay flat while that pen is in place. All in all, these really make the Surface Pro 12 into a really nice tablet / computer, though if I were not an artist, I would personally skip the pen. I don’t see a whole lot of use for it if you are not an artist.

I love my keyboard and pen. I love that the keyboard is attach and detachable. Even if I don’t want to detach it, I can just flip it and use my surface as a tablet. The surface slim pen is also great. It attaches to the tablet but a slight problem is that it does fall off once in a while. The pen fits perfect in my hand perfectly. It also charges by connecting it to my surface. I just love everything about this product.

I really love this keyboard. It has a very sleek design and feels much more upgraded compared to older versions. I like that it is not made out of cloth, so it does not get permanently dirty over time. It is super easy to clean with alcohol wipes, which makes a big difference for everyday use. The keys feel really satisfying when typing and are not overly loud or annoying. It has a nice, smooth feel that makes typing comfortable for long periods. Overall, it looks great, feels great, and is very practical. I would definitely recommend it.

The Surface Pro 12 Keyboard and Slim Pen 2 bundle arrived quickly and the packaging was clean, simple, and well thought out. The box feels premium and minimal, almost definitely all recyclable. Just like with the Surface tablet itself, it gives off that “you’re about to use something good” vibe. The keyboard and pen were both secure in a sleek clamshell-style box, no tape or plastic to fight with, and they came out ready to use. I snapped the keyboard onto the tablet in seconds, no setup or pairing needed, just click and done, which was so awesome. The pen popped onto the magnetic charging strip along the back of the Surface, and it immediately started charging. No extra steps. No wires, just a perfect seamless setup that helps to make a big difference in the user experience from the very start. The keyboard feels solid despite being super thin and extremely lightweight. I was surprised by how sturdy and durable it feels. They designed it so that there is some give between the keyboard and the rigid plastic magnetic strip that attaches to the tablet. There is some extra material that pulls out about half an inch, to give it more wiggle room. You can tug on it a bit and it stays locked in place, which makes it feel reliable. I wouldn’t throw it across the room, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I dropped the tablet and the keyboard was still attached. The keys themselves are full-size and backlit, with just the right amount of resistance when you type. You can actually feel the keypress instead of that squishy or flat feeling some detachable keyboards have. It types like a real laptop keyboard and the buttons feel nice and smooth under my fingertips. I really like having a dedicated Copilot key, it makes it easy to call up Microsoft’s AI whenever I need quick info or help writing something, for free. I’m starting to use it more than visiting search engines. The keyboard also has other shortcut keys, like screen snip and mic mute, volume controls, etc. My only real complaint is that there’s no Control key on the bottom right corner, which I use often on my desktop computer. I’ll probably get used to it, but it definitely slows down my workflow for now. The outer fabric has that faux-suede feel, soft, grippy, and high-end lookin. It’s a cutting edge material called Alcantara produced by an Italian company of the same name. I really like it, and according to the Alcantara website, it can be wiped clean, provides a grip surface and feels cool in summer and warm in winter. The touchpad is on the medium/small size, but it’s responsive, smooth, and reliable. The keyboard doesn’t feel cramped, even though it's compact. The Slim Pen 2, which I’ve been excited to try out, is really nice! It’s always charged thanks to the magnetic spot on the back of the tablet, and it stays put, even when I’m carrying the Surface around the house. It’s got a nice weight and shape to it, similar to a rectangular carpenter pencil, if you’ve ever used one of those. It does feel pretty natural in my hand, but, I will say that I am still getting used to using it a bit. Writing with it is smooth and accurate, and I love the little haptic feedback it gives in certain apps. In Microsoft Whiteboard, for example, it gives you a subtle vibration when you hold the pen still, right after drawing as shape, to notify you that the shape is being perfected from hand drawn to a perfectly sized shape. And the haptic feedback works differently for different apps. That feedback makes it feel more like writing on paper. The hover feature is also super helpful, you can hold the pen a bit above the screen and still see exactly where you’re pointing. It feels like having a mouse pointer on a tablet, and it adds a level of precision I really appreciate, and allows you to hover over options to see the help text, before clicking it. Overall, I’m really happy with the keyboard and pen. They completely change the Surface Pro 12 from a tablet into a fully-functioning laptop. The build quality is excellent, the connections are strong, and it all works together perfectly. It is a bit pricey, I won’t lie, but if you’re already buying the Surface Pro 12, this bundle takes it to the next level and makes the whole device way more fun and functional. I’d highly recommend it!\

First Impressions & Design Right out of the box, the keyboard and pen combo in Ocean just looks and feels premium. It perfectly matches the Surface Pro 12" I’ve been using, with the same refined, soft-blue tone that adds a bit of personality without going overboard. It magnetically attaches to the tablet with that satisfying snap, and once it’s connected, the whole device feels like a true 2-in-1 laptop. The Alcantara fabric has a soft, suede-like feel to it—not slippery, but not grippy either. It looks good and feels comfortable against my wrists when typing for long stretches. It’s got that balance of looking business-ready while still being modern and stylish. Typing Experience This keyboard surprised me with how solid it feels for something so thin. The key travel is just deep enough to avoid feeling cramped, and the spacing is spot on. I've written full articles, edited spreadsheets, fired off tons of emails—and I never felt like I was compromising. The trackpad, while not huge, is glass and responsive. It supports all the multitouch gestures you'd expect in Windows 11, and it never felt laggy or jittery. Slim Pen Performance The included Slim Pen is tucked right into the keyboard’s top edge. It charges wirelessly when it’s docked, and it’s always ready to go when I need it. I’ve used it for digital note-taking, quick sketches in Whiteboard, and marking up PDFs—and the experience is excellent. It’s pressure-sensitive, has tilt support, and the latency is low enough that it feels natural, especially on the Surface Pro 12’s touch display. I don’t do detailed digital art, but for handwriting and annotations, it’s fast, smooth, and responsive. Palm rejection also works well—I didn’t experience any weird touches or accidental marks while resting my hand on the screen. Portability & Real-World Use What makes this keyboard + pen combo so good is how seamlessly it travels. It turns the Surface Pro into a true laptop replacement without adding much bulk. I’ve carried the setup in a slim sleeve, thrown it in a backpack, and pulled it out for use on flights, coffee shops, and couch work. Everything stays attached magnetically, even when moving between spots. The magnetic pen dock is especially helpful on the go—I never have to dig through my bag to find the pen, and it’s always charged. No AAAA batteries, no cables, just simple and convenient. The Surface Pro keyboard and pen are incredible peripherals for the Surface Pro 12”, and are basically necessities when buying the Surface Pro! (So much so, they should absolutely be included/bundled together with the computer!) The keyboard is very solidly built and sturdy, covered in a premium, soft-to-the-touch fabric material. It easily and very strongly magnetically snaps onto the Surface Pro via a set of pins that line up to the bottom of the Surface Pro, and also doubles as a wrap-around cover for the Surface (can freely move 360 degrees), which stays magnetically closed when covering the screen! The keyboard keys and trackpad are both very high quality as well, and have satisfying clicks/presses that definitely make the typing experience feel premium. I do think the keys on the keyboard are slightly differently spaced than most laptop keyboards I’ve used, as when switching from my standard computer keyboards to this keyboard I tend to occasionally accidentally mis-type words, but I always get used to it again very quickly. The keyboard is also backlit, has many useful function buttons at the top (which as a note, their uses are very obvious which is nice!), and has a Copilot button near the bottom right of the keyboard for if you’re an AI power user! The pen is also really great! It magnetically attaches (extremely strongly!) to the back of the Surface Pro where it also wirelessly charges, and in general is a really great writing, drawing, and stylus tool! It has a pressure sensitive tip, so in certain software, such as OneNote or Whiteboard, you can be quite expressive with the pen, and the Surface Pro has excellent palm-rejection, so you can truly use the Surface like a notepad! Flipping the pen around to the “eraser” side will also let you erase your writing in the aforementioned software, pressing the side button in conjunction with dragging lets you easily group select items on the screen in many supported apps, and tapping the screen while the side button is pressed acts as a “right click”, very nice and intuitive touches! The Surface Pro includes all sorts of first party apps and operating system-level support for making great use of the pen, letting you do things like write directly in supported text fields with the pen as input, take notes like a pro, and even take a quick note at any time by clicking the top of the pen to bring up a fresh note! I very much enjoy using the pen!

The Microsoft Surface Pro 12” is pretty impressive on its own. But, when you snap this backlit keyboard and pen to it, you practically have a complete laptop plus pen. The magnetic connection between the tablet and keyboard is really strong, while the keyboard has some play to it to allow for better positioning and not leave any slack hanging around. The bottom side has a nice felt covering and the sturdiness of the whole panel is quite impressive for how thin it is. It has a typical touch pad that feels responsive to clicks. You have all the standard keys with function keys by default having various media and brightness buttons for the screen and the keyboard. It also has a lone Copilot button, which is interesting if you want to pull it up quickly instead of using the default key combo. Closing the keyboard acts like a screen cover and automatically puts the device to sleep. Flipping it behind the tablet also deactivates the keys, so no accidental typing if you don’t want to remove it for tablet purposes. The pen has to be charged by placing it in the groove on the back of the tablet and then connected through Bluetooth settings. However, once that is done, it works perfectly. The oval shape fits comfortably between fingers and there is a function button that essentially acts as a right click of a mouse. It glides perfectly on the glass surface and with the right applications, it is even pressure sensitive. The pen snaps tight in the groove on the back of the tablet, but it does stick out a bit, leaving a bit of imbalance if intending to lay it flat on the back. Overall I feel this keyboard and pen combo is essential for the Surface Pro. Not only does it make the tablet into a laptop and adds a protective case, but the pen is perfect for anyone that wants to do some digital art.

The Microsoft Surface Pro Keyboard 12” with Slim Pen feels like a product that should have been included by default with the Microsoft Surface Pro 12”. That is not a criticism of either the keyboard or the pen, both are great. But the fact that they are not included in the package feels off as the Microsoft Surface Pro benefits so much from the keyboard and slim pen that it feels incomplete without them. This is an excellent pen for the Surface Pro and a good tablet keyboard. Both are just as polished as the Surface Pro itself, and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. Experience: The Surface Pro Keyboard magnetically attaches to the side of the Surface Pro and instantly works with the tablet. The Slim Pen also works with the Surface Pro out of the box and charges by snapping magnetically to the back of the tablet. The keys and the trackpad for the keyboard feel great. The felt-like material on the back side of the keyboard adds some style and feels good to the touch. The keyboard features backlighting that, in my experience, stood out just enough to help me type in dark rooms. The pen has haptic support, pressure sensitivity, and two different buttons with functions that vary depending on the application you are using. Flip the pen around and you can use the backside of the pen as an eraser to correct mistakes. The pen has a good fit in my hands and is my favorite stylus to date. Conclusion: I really have no nitpicks with either the keyboard or the pen. They both work well and set the bar for tablet keyboards and pens. I just wish both had come with the Surface Pro. 5/5 Must have accessory.

It is finished in a very nice ocean grey Alcantara fabric which matches the aluminum body of the tablet. The case overlaps the body of the tablet just enough to give edge protection without becoming overly bulky. It is also quite slim, adding only a quarter of an inch to overall thickness and 12 ounces to the total weight. This keeps the total weight of the protected Surface Pro 12” Tablet at a svelte 2 pounds, 4.5 ounces. I really like how the case snaps into place when you bring the keyboard section near your Surface Pro. The magnets are powerful and the tabs ensure that the alignment is perfect. Once in place you have the sense that your Surface Pro is very well protected. The case is quite solid but not bulky. The fabric covering, besides being very attractive, also gives a non-slip surface. Alcantara is a premier polyester/polyurethane velvety fabric made in Italy which is soil resistant and will not stain from water. It is used in designer goods, Formula One cars and the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule. Setting up the tablet in a laptop form just requires flipping down the keyboard cover and opening the lower portion of the back of the tablet. The stand provides multiple angles for the tablet with no slippage. If you are just watching videos, you can detach the keyboard and just use the back to support the screen at a comfortable angle. The keyboard is just superb, very responsive, solid-feeling keys and no mushiness when typing. The size is essentially that of a normal, full-size keyboard (see photo of this keyboard next to a desktop keyboard.) You don’t have the feeling that your typing is compromised in any way. It really works well. There is no separate numeric keypad, but for general purposes such as word document and email typing it is about as good as any laptop and the backlighting is excellent. The trackpad is solid feeling and large enough to easily navigate to precise locations on the screen. It gives very definite clicks when you need that feature. It also supports useful gestures such as scrolling (two fingers), switching apps (three finger swipe), pinch to zoom (two fingers). I found the preprogrammed shortcut keys very useful. One tap to activate Copilot or the snipping tool, another tap to lock the tablet – very nice! The Slim Pen is just perfect. It has a nice, carpenter pencil (flat surface) design with a top (endcap) button and a side button. The pen can detect 4,096 pressure levels which translate into various pen outputs. The side button can be used to select things or function like a right mouse click. The top button functions as an eraser or it can activate various apps. Use is very smooth. If you take notes in cursive the tablet will automatically convert those notes to text. The pen is also very useful for marking up documents with notes and deletions. The pen auto-positions itself on the back of the tablet and is very securely held magnetically. It recharges while held in place. The charge lasts 15 hours so the pen is always ready for use. Anyone who buys the new Microsoft Surface Pro 12” would be well-advised to add this great keyboard and slim pen to that purchase. It is essential to obtain the full productivity possible from the new tablet. It is very reasonably priced (considering that the pen alone would cost $130!) since it gives both protection and full laptop functionality. It will greatly add to your enjoyment and I give it my highest rating!

As much as I think the Microsoft Surface Pro 12” is a fantastic product on its own, I simply cannot imagine using it sans the keyboard. To me, this is an absolutely essential product that should be considered a necessary accessory purchase if you are planning on getting a Surface Pro. The pen, however, I find to be slightly more optional. The first things that stood out to me about this keyboard – and yes, I’m typing this whole review on it – is that it’s thin while still feeling more like a “regular” keyboard. The keys are standard sized keys and they’re all individual keys as opposed to some flat membrane keyboard. They’re thin keyboards, but it provides just enough of a tactile feedback that I don’t feel hundreds of miles from my main mechanical keyboard. The layout is similar to a full keyboard minus the number pad section. The enter key and scroll arrows are a bit smaller, similar to many other smaller sized laptops nowadays, but the rest feel normal sized and adjusting to typing was easy accomplished in a few instant messages. It’s got full sized numbers along the tope and smaller function keys at the very top. There is a handy light on both the caps lock and function keys. The latter is very welcome, as you don’t have to hold to use. The dimensions are the same as the screen, but obviously thinner. I’ve about medium to large sized hands and the size of the palm rest areas are just big enough. Part of my left palm rests slightly off the keyboard area, but it’s thin enough that it’s not a noticeable bump between the part of my palm on the palm rest and on the desk surface it sits on. There is a backlight, which is welcome in slightly darker environments. The trackpad is exactly what you’d like it to be. It’s generously sized, in my opinion, for a keyboard of this size. It’s smooth, but a noticeably different surface from the palm rest areas next to it. And, my favorite part, is that there is a satisfying click to it. The keyboard magnetically clips to the bottom of the Surface Pro. It’s a satisfying and strong click. Strong enough that this is not falling off, but not so strong as to struggle to remove it. I have to hand it to the team that designed that aspect of it, as it’s truly the perfect level of tension to feel both secure but not stuck on there. Once connected, the Surface just recognizes it completely. No software installs, no adjusting things, separate powering or anything of the sort – connect it and go. There is also a magnetic connection when swinging the keyboard around the Surface in both directions. Cover the screen, it goes into standby and holds shut as a cover. Swing it around the other way and it snaps to the back of the Surface and deactivates – so you don’t have to worry about inputting any keystrokes on accident while holding the Surface as a tablet. My biggest gripes are minor. As a screen cover it’s okay. It’ll protect the screen, but I’ve noticed imprints of the key spacing amongst my finger smudges on the screen. On the reverse of the keyboard is a suede-like material. It feels nice, but I worry about it collecting dirt. That said, I can’t imagine it being the same plastic surface as the keyboard itself, as that would surely collect noticeable scratches. Closing it while the pen is attached to the surface is also a bit odd. It still magnetically holds, but with the pen between the keyboard and the Surface itself it’s just a bit awkward. I can’t think of a better solution in my head that doesn’t involve the pen being stored within either the Surface itself of keyboard, so I suppose it’s fine. And that does bring us to the Slim Pen itself. I’m a big fan of it, but I’m unsure if I’m the type of user who really can take advantage of it. The pen is a bit reminiscent of a carpentry pencil. It is pencil shaped but thin and flat so it will not roll. If you’ve never used a carpentry pencil it may feel unfamiliar in your had compared to a typical cylindrical pencil or pen. I had no problem using it, but my partner still finds it unnatural feeling. The pen has two buttons, one small, recessed button towards the writing tip and the other capping the end of it where an eraser would be. The smaller button acts as right-click on a mouse. This becomes very intuitive and terribly helpful when navigating the Windows operating system experience. Yes, you could hold the tip to the screen for an extra second to access the right-click context menus, but it’s so much nicer to hold the button with your thumb and just tap the screen – just as if you hit the right-click button a mouse. The cap button is customizable in Windows. There are actually three ways of using it: single click, double click, hold. You can set them however you’d like. I have mine set as default. Single click brings up a quick note, double click opens the OneNote application fully and holding it brings up the Copilot feature in Windows – something there’s also a dedicated keyboard function, too. Copilot is Microsoft’s AI feature. It’s powerful and can do quite a bit – everything from answering questions to deep looks at what’s on the screen, image generation and more. Having it at your fingertip, literally, is definitely helpful and a good way to incorporate using Copilot in your daily use. Using the pen itself is a similar experience to other digital pens. As the pen tip approaches the screen, you see a tiny pointer. Smaller than a mouse pointer and just enough to know what you’re precisely clicking on. Handwriting as an input option has worked well. I’ve big, wide handwriting and it’s a slight adjustment to get used to, but I’m very impressed with it. As for the feel, that’s something you’ll like, tolerate, or hate. The screen is glossy and pen to screen surface feels like tapping against glass, not like writing on a any type of paper surface. It’s an odd feeling and one that if you’re not used to feels awkward, like you may be scratching the screen every time you run your pen over it. If your normal pen/pencil touch is heavy, you may need to back off a bit as it’s not necessary here. However, depending on the program you’re using, the Surface will recognize pressure. For example, in drawing, making a thicker stroke than a thinner one. The pen is Bluetooth and instantly connects to the Surface. I did not have to do any setup, past some initial pop-up screens that show its basic functions and takes you to the settings screen for customizing the button. The pen, when not in use, has a dedicated area on the back of the Surface Pro to store it. Not only does it magnetically hold in place solidly, but it also serves to charge it wirelessly. There is no other way to charge the pen. When connected, a small white light glows briefly to show it’s connected and charging. The pen itself stays out of the way and with the strong hold, I did not knock it loose when holding the Surface as a tablet. You know it’s there, as even the slim still has some thickness that sticks out from the form factor of the Surface, but it’s not in the way. I enjoy the pen, but comparatively to the keyboard this does not feel essential to using the Surface Pro. However, I feel this is largely your mileage may vary situation. I’m not a big fan of handwriting notes. I’m used to my notetaking being done on a keyboard and that feels more natural to me than handwriting. I’m not taking advantage of it as someone looking to draw or edit images. I’ve used it for browsing, some light notetaking and I really do like it, but overall, it’s a very secondary tool for me, personally. If I didn’t own it, I’m not sure I’d miss it. In summary, both the keyboard and Slim Pen are functionally great and work perfectly out of the box. I really have very little in the way of complaints for both. However, I find the keyboard an absolute necessity with the Surface Pro, while I’m unsure if I really needed the pen. However, that’s going to be 100% down to personal preference. If you think you’ll want/need/enjoy the pen – you will! If you think it’s not something that you’ll truly take advantage of then you probably won’t. Regardless, both are well made quality items that perfectly complement your Surface Pro and I will wholeheartedly recommend.

The Microsoft – Surface Pro 12” Keyboard for Pro 12” with Slim Pen – Ocean is a nice addition to the Surface Pro 12”. Now that I have it, I am so glad I do because it acts as a full-size keyboard/protective cover in one. As of rigjt now I am having a hard time finding a protective cover for the Surface Pro, so this keyboard is a must. The backside has a soft, velvety feel and is nice to touch as you pick it and fold it over to stow the Surface Pro away. The keys are very responsive, sleek, and satisfying to type on. There is not a clicking sound, it is more muted and quieter than a typical tap. There is a dedicated CoPilot key for quick access to AI assistance. The touch pad is large and very responsive. I usually have problems copying and pasting text without a mouse. The touch pad was able to perform that task without issues or frustration on my part. Now onto the pen. The pen is super nice because it is lightweight, thin, carpenter style, and compact. The flat and boxy shape is a nice feature compared to a round traditional pen style. It attaches to the back of the Surface Pro magnetically and will charge at that location. It can also attach on the shorter edges of the Surface Pro (front, back or screen side), or on the top and bottom edges on the screen surface. When the pen is about half an inch away from the screen or closer, the pen will show a small dot on the screen when it is hovering over it, this is called Proximity Snap. When I am using it for my artwork, the pen is responsive and easy to use. I have noticed that if I am tapping rapidly with the pen, it doesn’t pick up each individual tap and draw it out. It requires me to slow down tapping for it to register what I’m trying to draw. Otherwise, I’m very satisfied with the pen’s performance and design.

Just getting the obvious out of the way, and that is, this should be included with the Surface (at least the keyboard). But given that will never change, I do appreciate Microsoft bundling the pen and keyboard together. Pointing out the obvious, but the keyboard attaches to the bottom of your Surface (note, this only works for the new 12 inch model). It’s a strong magnet, you could hold the Surface upside down by the keyboard and it wouldn’t fall. For those who have never used one, it’s plug and play and is that simple to use. The keyboard is well built and looks sharp. I like the suede back of the keyboard, it feels nice, although I do get concerned about stains and discoloration over time. The top of the keyboard has a rubber feel. It feels nice to the touch. The keyboard is passable, it’s the best 2 in 1 keyboard, but will never (and it doesn’t really try to) replace a mechanical keyboard. The depth is shallow. It has a nice satisfying click to it. I found it very responsive. The biggest drawback for me is the size, I’m just used to a full size keyboard and this feels cramped. Not complaining about it, it’s just something that I have to become accustomed to. The touchpad’s surface is very responsive to single and multi touch gesture. The clicking of the touchpad feel satisfying as well. I was able to navigate the mousepad with ease using multiple fingers. It’s not something you’ll want to use in your lap, the keyboard is too flimsy IMO. It’s best suited setup flat on a table. The pen is a nice touch. I’m not creative by trade so I don’t know what I would necessarily use it for, but I like using it for navigating while I’m holding the Surface in my hand. It uses Bluetooth to connect. I’m not sure how long the battery lasts, but it charges in the small charging cradle (more of an indention) on the backside of the Surface. I found a journal app that was seemingly built into Windows to be the most fun option. I found the pen to be highly accurate and responsive. I find the keyboard to be an absolutely necessary accessory to the Surface. Unlike an iPad, I think the Microsoft and Windows platform demands a keyboard. The keyboard is minimal, looks good and types well given its size and thinness. I like the pen, and it works really well, it just feels gimmicky mostly because I don’t think of a Windows platform to draw and create. Not to mention it has an odd shape and doesn’t carry the heft of an iPad pencil. But kudos for Microsoft for having included it the keyboard. I think the pen can be a fun distraction, there when you need it, and I could see its utility in digitally signing things on the go.

The Keyboard + Slim pen combo for the Surface Pro 12 it will transform your tablet experience into a full on laptop experience as fast as you can say click. And it does click quick and strongly as the magnets that keep this things together ar very satisfyingly strong giving you the confidence and peace of mind taking it anywhere! The pen it is very precise and easy to use, as expected and offers 15 hours of productivity. The keyboard it is very comfortable on typing and also precise with good key travel at an incredible thickness. The feeling it is very premium with a smooth-matte palm rest and a cover wrapped in soft Alcantara that when closed, besides the great screen protection, gives the Microsoft Surface Pro that complete look and feel and makes it into one of the best portable devices that you will want to have virtually anywhere! The Dynamic hinge hooks with what they call it proximity snap, so you don't have to guess, the keyboard will strongly attach perfect every time and with the 360 hinge it gives the perfect versatility going from Laptop to Tablet and back! It is a very nice and i would say a must have with your Surface Pro ... just so you can get the max experience out of it!

The Surface Pro 12" Keyboard with Slim pen is a must have accessory if you want to get the most out of your new Surface Pro PC. Backlight: YES. IT DOES HAVE A BACKLIT KEYBOARD. I felt that I needed to highlight this because I used my Surface Pro for a few days before figuring out how to turn on this very important feature. By default, the backlight is off out of the box. I actually had to ask Copilot how to turn it on because it's not immediately obvious - you have to hold down the Fn key and press the F5 key. Layout: The layout of this keyboard is honestly perfect. The keys have proper full-size spacing which makes transitioning to this keyboard effortless and intuitive - every key is located where it should be. The keys also have a satisfying tactile feel but are also incredibly quiet. I'm a big fan of what Microsoft has done with this design. Quality: As insignificant as it may sound, I am incredibly picky when it comes to the materials used for keyboards. I spend most of my day on the computer for work which makes a keyboard one of the most important touchpoints for me. The Surface Pro keyboard has a smooth, soft-touch, friction-less rubber coating that feels great. I also like that whatever they are using doesn't show fingerprints or smudges. The back side has something like an Alcantara material that not only looks great but is soft to the touch and won't show fingerprints - big fan. As you may have guessed, I'm not a fan of any materials that show fingerprints. Pen: The slim pen delivers on everything promised. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the flatter shape and it honestly feels cheap. I wish Microsoft would have put as much time into the design of the pen as they did with the keyboard and trackpad. Cons: I only have one con when it comes to the new Surface Pro 12" Keyboard. I really don't like how you can't have then pen charging on the back of PC when you want to use it in tablet mode. When you fold the keyboard around back, the keyboard will not sit flush with the back of the PC because the pen comes in contact with the keyboard. I feel like this could have been easily fixed by allowing the pen to mount to the front side of the keyboard in some fashion. Summary: Absolutely a must-have accessory for your new Surface Pro PC if you want to transform it from a tablet to a full-blown laptop. The included Copilot key makes launching your personal assistant only a keystroke away. The keyboard also attaches securely and effortlessly but is still easy to remove in a split second if needed.

I knew I was going to be using the new keyboard for the new Surface Pro 12, and as someone who has used a few Surface keyboards, I was very optimistic about receiving the new version. One of the main differences is that the inside is now a soft-touch rubber feel, as opposed to the other versions that had the same Alcantara fabric on the outside and inside. I really love the Ocean color. It’s subtle but still adds a pop of color, not quite as vibrant as the Violet version. Their keyboard is a joy to use. It feels great to type on, the keys feel great, and the sound from the keys is a bit muted, which I like since I tend to do work in bed while my spouse sleeps. The trackpad is a very good size, especially given the size of the cover. I normally just leave it on the cover since it can easily be folded back when you don’t need it. This also makes the Surface go into tablet mode, which gives Windows a slight change to the taskbar, making it a little easier to navigate with your fingers. When I do remove it, you can feel just how strong the magnets are; you really need to apply some force to get the keyboard removed from the Surface, and it’s great that it just snaps back on, even when you already have the Surface on the table. The keyboard lies flat, unlike the other Surface keyboards I have used in the past. I like that it lies flat, feels more stable when I am using this on my lap, sitting on the couch. You get function keys to adjust just about anything, along with a handy Copilot key. Plus, the keyboards also sport an adjustable backlight that turns off on its own when you haven’t used the keyboard in a while. Honestly, I wouldn’t change anything about this keyboard. It does a great job of protecting the screen when you aren’t using the Surface. It’s a pleasure to use with all the shortcuts and backlight features. The keys feel great to type on, and it’s a full keyboard, so it doesn’t feel cramped. The trackpad is nice and large, and it feels great using it. It is easy to get it out of the way when you are just using the Surface as a tablet. Now the Slim Pen. As someone who has used just about every variation of the Apple Pencil, including the latest one, I can say that the Slim Pen is a pleasure to use. I don’t miss the Apple Pencil in the slightest. I normally use Goodnotes for work, and they recently started working on a Windows solution. It’s not quite as good as what you get on iOS, but it’s nice. I ended up using OneNote since I can look at my notes on just about any platform. Using the Slim Pen to write out notes and diagrams for my students has been a joy. I really love the eraser feature; you just flip the Slim Pen over and use it like you would a pencil, and you can erase whatever you just drew/wrote. The flat design of the pen feels comfortable even after using it for a few hours. Just like the keyboard, the Slim Pen has a strong magnetic connection to the back of the Surface. At first, I was worried that it would fall off in my bag, or when I take the Surface in or out of my bag, but I am not worried about that any longer. The Slim Pen really snaps onto the back of the Surface, just like the keyboard; you need quite a bit of force to overcome that magnetic attraction. As far as battery life, I am not worried about it. It charges up while it’s on the back of the Surface, and even after using it for hours, I haven’t come close to depleting the battery. Pretty sure the Surface would power down before the Slim Pen. If I could make one change, it would be to match the color of the Slim Pen to the keyboard. I went ahead and ordered the Arc Mouse in Ocean to match the Surface and Keyboard, and it would be great to have the Slim Pen match the rest of the kit.

I recently acquired a Surface Pro 2in1 w/ CoPilot 2025 edition (12 inch Snap Dragon 8 variant) and to complement it the Microsoft keyboard w/ slim pen. The packaging is very nice even for this combo and inside is the keyboard and slim pen. Let's get the good news out of the way first. The keyboard is fantastic. It is sturdy and well built and I actually prefer it to just about every real laptop keyboard I've ever used. The keys are spaced well with good tactile feedback. The backlighting is subtle and complements the keys and color (ocean) very well. The trackpad is very large and responsive. I love that it is perfectly centered as I've used laptops that have the trackpad offset that works better for right handed users as I am a lefty and use it for trackpad use. Taps or clicks feel intuitive and natural. Seriously, I think I was more impressed with the keyboard than the Surface itself. I used a few other third party models on my 2020 and 2012 Surface models along with the "official" model on the 2020 and while it was nice, the refinements made over the years must be noted. I like that it pairs/attaches very easily and the magnets are very strong. as soon as you're even somewhat in the vicinity of the docking location on the Surface you can feel the pull of it wanting to dock which is nice but I also like that as strong as it is, it is very easy to detach. Closed, it sits flush and holds its position making it a great screen protector and very easy to slide into a backpack or messenger bag and use it on the go. To me, this is a must buy to fully utilize your Surface. Now the bad news, the slim pen. While it is functional, ergonomically, the flat wide build makes it feel cumbersome when being held yet it is a must when trying to do any real touch screen work. I do remember using a third party model with my other Surface models from 2012 and 2020 I used and I may have to do that with this one. It just feels so awkward to use. Click to activate works nice. I'm not a huge fan of the sensitivity when getting close to the screen but when on the screen it has a good amount of glide and tactile feedback which is nice. I do like that the pen can lightly magnetically attach to the bezel around the screen and much stronger to the top rear horizontally with an indicator light to let you know when the unit is plugged in / charging. When you're ready to pack up and go just close the keyboard up, put the pen on the back and you're ready to go. Maybe it is an adjustment period with the pen so I will continue to use it because functionally it gets the job done. On the other hand, the keyboard is flat out fantastic and worth the price of admission alone. Overall, if you're investing in a Surface, you really should extend that investment a bit and get the keyboard and pen. It really elevates the entire Surface experience to that next level and to me is a must have accessory to get the full functionality out of your Surface.
