A: Take a Pen Cap or other SOFT plastic item with a fairly small end to it and see if the screen reacts. If so your device probably has a Resistive Touch Screen and practically ANY stylus will work. If it doesn't work, try STEP 2… Try a Pencil Eraser. If this works but a plastic tip doesn't you probably have a SAW, or Surface Acoustic Wave Touch Screen. If this doesn't work, try STEP 3… Lastly, if nothing works but your finger (as with the iPhone/iPad) you probably have a Capacitive Touch Screen, which really limits your stylus options (for now…).

Cute & Useful
I bought this to use with my touchscreen laptop and also use it with my iPhone 6+ and I think it's great. It's small and has a nice expensive feel to it. I also really like how you can twist the bottom section and it becomes a pen. It's very useful in situations in which you cant find a pen or pencil lol

Works well with one caveat
I prefer a small stylus-pen combination. I'd not seen the Modal brand before but as I think it's a Best Buy product I thought it would be worth a shot. I was surprised when the pen tip emerged through the rubbery stylus tip. On the positive side, the open rubber ring works well and has resisted my usual tendency to drag the closed tips until they rip. One negative is that the pen tip seems to spontaneously advance and can occasionally make initial contact, so some care is required.
