If you've played MH3U then you'll absolutely love this entry in the Monster Hunter series, and if you haven't then this will probably be the easiest one to get into.

Love this game! I have the third game as well and while I love that too, this one is better both graphically and control-wise. New weapons, brand new monsters, and the cool storyline have me a little over a hundred hours in so far. Difficulty ramps up pretty quickly in the later section of the game but other than that it's been amazing!

My first experience with Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise was with the PSP Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and that game got me hooked. I played for over 400 hours. I have a sneaking suspicion my play time with this game will exceed that. Now, I played a bit with the Wii MH Tri and the 3DS Tri-G, but for some reason, those games didn't hook me. Perhaps it was the Wii's awkward controls and clumsy multiplayer (and the 3DS's gallant, yet failed, attempt to correct some of those woes). All I know is that I didn't log in 50 hours into those two games combined and I just assumed that perhaps I had outgrown the series. I was wrong. I have 100 hours already logged and I still can't put Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (MH4U) down. First off, this game will not appeal to everyone. If you are a button-mashing, run head-first into danger type player, you'll be punished severely by the difficulty. If you don't like grinding and killing the same thing over and over just to get one item to make a particular weapon/armor set, you'll find MH4U tedious. If you don't like having to keep track of four or five different tasks running in the background of the main game, you'll likely think the game is overly complicated. But if you like a challenge and you revel in knowing ridiculously arcane knowledge about armor skills and weapon affinity or elemental damage, then you'll likely love this game. There are no hit points or experience points. Your armor determines how much damage you can take. Your weapon determines how much damage you can deal. Your personal skill determines how well you succeed and that's what makes taking down fantastically large monsters that much more satisfying. There are no words to describe the white-knuckle adrenaline rush of taking down a monster that has been destroying you for 49 minutes. There is just a ton of things to do in MH4U. From the main story Caravan Quests, to multiplayer Gathering Hall Quests (which is there this franchise excels), to the side tasks of fishing, trading, farming, collecting Palicoes (feline helpers) and sending them out to gather items to craft more armor and weapons. MH4U has recaptured all the fun and excitement of the PSP's Freedom Unite and added heavily to it. And I cannot recommend playing MH4U with the new 3DS enough. The graphics really are improved and the added ZR and ZL buttons are a literal life-saver to help with camera controls. A must-buy for a fan of fantasy action games!

This game is just as amazing as all the previous ones in the series! There is a eShop demo for anyone that's never played before, but I'll be honest it's not an easy game, but it's very rewarding to finally take something difficult down (even better with friends!). Best part about this installment to the series to, ONLINE PLAY! Play with friends local or far, there's a huge community following too so you can always find others that way too.

This is the newest installment in the Monster Hunter franchise and it delivers what it promises. Plenty of monsters, good controls, decent graphics for the 3DS, and good new weaponry.

This game has a pretty steep learning curve as I found out during my first week of play. Once you get the hang of it, it is a ton of fun and super satisfying to slay giant monsters and craft better gear. This game also uses the 3ds' online capabilities to the fullest and lets you play with up to 3 other people at once. Great game for on the go as well.

MH 4U a game that's tough on you but rewarding once you get the hang of it, and quite addicting. There is so much to do and the extra things they've added since MH3 just breathes new life into the game. The online is smooth and of course ups the fun of the game even more. great game once u get past that tough learning curve.

This is my very first time playing monster hunter. I like the fact that you slice up the monster and use their skin as gear. I enjoy playing online and getting help to build up my HR. I so recommend this game. Some monsters are hard to beat.

Monster Hunter can be brutal in its difficulty, but it is very fun. Learning each monster is crucial to success. The game requires a lot of playtime and grinding to get the most out of it, but it is even more fun to play it with friends, and thankfully it now has online play on the 3DS.

This game has tons of content and amazing depth that can last hundreds of hours. Great tactical combat where every button you push and every attack and dodge you do has impact. Learning curve is a little steep, but once you get the hang of it, you won't be able to put it down.

It's Monster Hunter all over again, but this time the added features take the formula on a whole new ride. With the new weapons, refreshing new environments, and recharged generation 1 monsters, this is most certainly the best Monster Hunter yet.

I've only played MHTri on the Wii and had fun playing with friends. This game feels so much more bigger than the console game I've played. Online works great, controls feel good, and there's tons of content and monsters.

I'm not an experienced Monster Hunter player, but gave it a shot with this one and so far, I'm really enjoying it. It looks and runs great on the New 3DS XL (can't say how it runs on the regular 3DS XL). It's pretty beefy when it comes to the visuals and a HUGE amount of content. The online matchmaking is very easy and I've already hunted in a party with three random online players. No voice chat, but plenty of canned responses and a keyboard for text-chat. Plenty of tutorials help you learn your way around this intricate world of hunting and gathering, crafting and eating and much more. It controls well and has a sense of humor. Highly recommended for fans of third-person action-adventure games with some RPG elements (inventory/crafting/leveling).

MH4U outdid itself! For veterans, with the introduction of two new weapons, the Insect Glaive and the Charge Blade, there's a weapon for everyone. With your trusty Palico sidekick/s (whom you can customize extensivley), you will be ready for any fight. Not to mention online multi-player, you no longer have to play locally with friends. This was the main selling point for me and my friends, we can play the game as long as we're connected to wireless network. If you're new to the series, this is a fantastic way to get into the series. Great in-game tutorials to get you into it.

This game is EXCELLENT. Whether you're playing on the 3DS or the NEW 3DS XL, this is THE game to own that showcases what the 3DS can do. Great controls, great online play, this is everything we could want.

Arguably, the best Monster Hunter so far. The story transitions well. The dialogue is well written, clever, and humorous. Gameplay has new climbing and mounting mechanics which helps to take monster down more easily. I do admit, it seems less challenging than previous Monster Hunters, but that could also be due to how experienced I am with the franchise. I recommend this game to others. Newcomers can get help from others in the Online Multiplayer mode. However, in-game chatting is just minimally acceptable. Chatting through Skype or other third-party messages/voice chat services will optimize your group hunting experience.

Ever since Capcom's partnership with Nintendo we've been getting a steady string of Western Releases with the Monster Hunter series, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the best one yet. The amount of content alone makes even some 60$ games pale in comparison. New additions such as the Charge Blade and Insect Glaive as well as the added verticality in battles breathe new life into a game thats still finding its footing among the hardcore in the west. This game isn't for everyone, its demanding and difficult, but for those who enjoy a challenge are aren't afraid to be thrown into the fire right away this is the game for you.

Monster Hunter is a mobile game with more content than a lot of full console games! Every fight with a large monster is like the boss fight from any other game. The game play keeps you on your toes and the crafting keeps you interested in the long run. Not to mention some of the best multiplayer on a mobile platform. The only complaint is that some of the games tutorials don't explain everything. Luckily, the online community for this game is very helpful and will get you going in the right path.

I really like this game; it deserves 5 stars, but I just found it over time to be way too repetitive. Later game missions have you fighting the same monsters, or two/three of them at once... And that disappointed me compared to Monster Hunter Tri. However, I found the multiplayer to be a great time while my friends and I played together. I just found single player to sort of "end" once you finish the main part. Afterward it's just less interesting (at least to me). If you have friends to play with, this game is worth the time invested. Otherwise, a bit short story wise.
