    Excellent Switch Box

I love this small switch. I have it on my desk to split out the VoiP phone and the computer since the phone is only 100 Mb speed. I would recommend this to anyone.

Fast, intuitive, rock solid and easy setup!

This NetGear 5-port switch replaced an older version of the same model. The existing one is 8-years old and still working but I wanted the newer administration and connectivity benefits of the v2 model. Install was a breeze using both the web interface and ProSafe plus utility. The switch is running fast and the console is showing a rock-solid 1000 mbps link to the other devices. Amazingly gaming performance has improved (didn't expect that). I just ordered two more for the rest of the house, and yes, those are also 8-years old and running perfectly but for a little money the LAN will be new again. Buy it, you won't be disappointed! NetGear keeps delivering awesome products!

    Works like a charm

Super easy setup -- just plug it in and go. No need to adjust any settings although that is an option if you want to give higher priority to certain ports or configure other advanced settings. Since my mesh router only has 2 physical ports I needed this device to connect to other hard wired devices (computers and printers) in my office. Very good speeds as well as I didn't notice any significant decrease in speeds vs. directly connected to the router.

    Excellent for the price point

Bought one for my network hub in the living room, connecting Smart TV, UDH BlueRay, and Roku. This version (metal housing) has much higher interconnect speed than its plastic counterpart. Very happy with it.

Questions & Answers
  • What's the difference between managed and unmanaged ethernet switches?

Unmanaged switches merely allow you to connect more devices via ethernet to your network. They have no other functionality. Managed switches allow you to setup vlans, quality control, flow control, limit throughput, port mirroring, so on and so forth usually by installing a piece of software on a computer created by the manufacturer of the switch, or by going to the IP address assigned to the switch in a web browser. You can also password protect managed switches. If security or quality of service is what you are after then I would suggest a managed switch. If all you need to do is add more devices to your wired network then go with unmanaged.

  • with this device can i have my PC, PS4 and a wifi adapter all plugged in and still good good connection while gaming online and using the internet on PC without any lag?

You may get lag, but it wont be due to this switch.

  • I have a Netgear X8, which has only VLAN/IPTV, but I'd like to have VLAN segmentation on my network. Would it make most sense to replace the router, or buy a Netgear managed switch? What are the pros and cons to consider?
