Niklas Sivel v - Piano Concertos 1 & 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Swedish pianist Niklas Sivelöv (b. 1968, Stockholm) joins the ranks and continues the great tradition of the pianist-composer with this first-ever recording dedicated to his own compositions. His 24 Preludes, written 2010-14, takes it's place in the tradition established by Chopin, Scriabin and Shostakovich. This recording presents some of Mr. Sivelöv's early work and some of his most recent, completed earlier in 2015, with music colored by a range of influences, from Bach to jazz. The composer supplies the booklet essay himself, explaining what he was trying to achieve in each piece.

Andreas N. Tarkmann calls his latest work InchDaughter of the Sun - Inca CantataInch - a film about the old town Machu Picchu rediscovered in 1911 gave him the idea. In the Inca culture, the Inchsun virginsInch were young girls who were snatched from their families at an early age, who lived isolated in a monastery and were responsible for the development of the religious sun cult. From this historical tradition, librettist Markus Pohlmeyer developed a series of sixteen songs which, although fictitious, credibly tell the life of the daughters of the Sun from their point of view. Tarkmann developed his own musical language, which he wrote especially for the Mädchenchor Hannover. Gustav Holst's chamber opera InchSavitriInch is an excellent addition - it goes back to an episode from the old Indian epic of the same name. Under the direction of Gudrun Schröfel, the Girls' Choir is able to bring it's tonal strengths to bear in both works.
