This is a brand new 1/72 scale diecast model of the DeHavilland Mosquito FB Mk VI Combat Aircraft, flown by Sqd. Ldr. Robert Allen Kip and Flt. Lt. Peter Huletsky from Holmsley South in 1944, part of the Royal Air Force "Oxford Aviation" Series by Oxford Diecast. The model features a detailed exterior and true-to-scale accuracy, including realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts, it comes with a display stand and has dimensions of approximately 7.25 inches in length with a 9-inch wingspan. While the model does not have any functional openings, it offers a heavy, realistic feel and is highly detailed, making it ideal for collectors and military aviation enthusiasts. The Mosquito was one of the fastest operational aircraft in 1941, used in roles such as medium bomber, reconnaissance, tactical strike, anti-submarine warfare, shipping attacks, night fighter duties, and special operations including dropping agents and supplies into occupied Europe. Over 7,700 were built and it served with the RAF, Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces, remaining in RAF service until 1956. The FB Mk VI variant was powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin 21 or 23 engines producing around 1,460 horsepower each, enabling speeds over 380 mph. It was typically armed with four 20mm Hispano cannons in the nose and four .303 Browning machine guns in the wings, with the capacity to carry bombs, rockets, or torpedoes. Notable operations included the precision raid on Amiens prison in 1944 and bombing raids such as the attack on the Gestapo headquarters in Oslo, Norway. The Mosquito’s wooden construction made it strong, lightweight, easy to build, and fast, earning it a reputation for reliability, performance, and versatility across numerous wartime missions.
