That maxim of beauty springing from the darkest of places is one of the oldest in the book to be sure, but it is nonetheless more than applicable in this instance. After spending his teenage years careening dangerously out of control, Seattle native Mike Hadreas finally faced up to the darkness that plagued him, moved away from New York and threw himself into a spell of self-imposed isolation in his mother's house in the suburbs. It is here that, filled with pent-up emotion and frustration and no way to express it, Hadreas sat down at a piano one day and found his voice as Perfume Genius. He wrote over 10 more songs in the space of a year, with this record, InchLearningInch, the staggering end result. The single InchMr PetersonInch, released in March, may have captivated listeners with it's strange beauty; it's gorgeous, piano-led simplicity belying it's subject matter of suicide and perversion, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. While the 10 tracks comprising InchLearningInch may at times feel acutely, almost painfully close to the bone, it is also, at the same time, a deeply cathartic and incredibly moving experience, and one which travels the gamut of human emotion. This is unsurprising perhaps, as Hadreas has sequenced the album in chronological order The title track is the first song he ever wrote, with the following songs all tracked in order of when he wrote them. This record, therefore, is one which slowly grows and expands over it's running length From the fragile, ghostly whisper of the title track to the shimmering, slow-motion ballad InchWhenInch, the sorrowful hymnals of InchGay AngelsInch to the yearning InchYou Won't B Here TomorrowInch. By the time the album closes with the last, crystalline notes of InchNever DidInch, there's something else too - a sense of healing, of hope amidst the horror, flickering but defiant, enough to make your heart b

2014's Too Bright showcased Mike Hadreas stepping out saucily onto a bigger stage, expressing, with the production help of Portishead's Adrian Utley, emotions arranged all along the slippery continuum from rage to irony to love. Here in 13 new ferocious and sophisticated tracks, Hadreas and his collaborators blow through church music, make out music, an array of the gothier radio popular formats, rhythm and blues, art pop, krautrock, queer soul, the RCA Studio B sound, and then also collect some of the sounds that only exist inside Freddy Krueger. Tremolo on the electric keys. Nightclubbing. Daywalking. Kate Bushing, Peter Greenawaying, Springsteening, Syreetaing. No Shape was produced by Blake Mills, the man behind Alabama Shakes' Grammy Award winning album. He added precision and expansion. Some things are pretty and some are blasted beyond recognition. Records like this, records that make you feel like you're 15 and just seeing the truth for the first time, are excessively rare. They're here to remind you that you're divine.

Pauline and Paul Viardot were members of the famous Garcia family, Pauline's father the world renowned operatic tenor Manuel, and her son Paul a violin prodigy who rubbed shoulders with Europe's elite and became a friend and colleague of Saint-Saens. Pauline's 'Six Morceaux' were composed as a gift to her young son. Beyond his 'Sonatas,' much of Paul Viardot's music consists of the short 'salon' works on this recording. They are considered Incha treasure of melodiesInch by Reto Kuppel, and an evocation of 1920s Paris and French elegance. Violinist Reto Kuppel has performed throughout Europe and the United States and has appeared as a soloist with many German orchestras, including the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Concertino Hamburg, the Ensemble Haar, and the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied with Andreas Rohn at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Hamburg, and with Dorothy DeLay at The Juilliard School in New York. His solo albums have been highly acclaimed by both critics and audiences.

Alkai is the fourth album of Lithuanian ritualistic dark-folk project Veliu Namai. It serves as an open invitation to experience the mystical world of the Baltics - to feel the sacredness of it's ancient past. Draped in a sonic tapestry woven from a great variety of musical traditions, the listener is sent off on a hypnotic flight of the imagination. Ceremonial chanting and droning folk parts give way to a kind of otherworldly, trance-inducing techno performed with mostly organic instruments. As with the radically different music styles, digital and analogue sounds are fused together seamlessly. Pulsating minimalism merges with vocals and shamanic percussion to create a hypnotic soundscape coated by mesmerizing melodies played on guitars, lutes, and ethnic string instruments such as the Turkish baglama, Lithuanian kankles and Latvian giga. This ambitious concoction boils down to an exquisite brew infused in equal parts with Dead Can Dance, Wardruna, Sigur Ros, and various electronic music. InchAlkaiInch will be released by Nordvis on CD-digipak and digital, January 20, 2023. The album features guest appearances by Espen Winther of Eldrim, Swedish-Serbian composer Petar Mrdjen, and prominent Lithuanian singer Liucija Nanartaviciute.
