Portugal the Man - Shish - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Portugal. The Man had been a band for just over 2 years and in that period, they had released 3 full-lengths, 1 EP, and a couple standalone singles. In that same period, they had also performed just shy of 500 shows. This young band from Alaska was riding a creative wave that is rarely scene coupled with the most hardcore work ethic. Alaskans are tough and this band was tougher. They ended tour in December of 2008 and instead of taking a much- needed break made the decision that they needed to record the culmination of what their live performance had become. Finding a rare gem of a studio in the suburbs of Portland. They piled in to the studio with all their live gear and a handful of friends with handheld cameras. Longtime collaborator and filmmaker Graham (Baclagon) Agcaolli and engineer/mixer Jacob Portrait (who would later join Unknown Mortal Orchestra) would help to document.2021. The band has been off the road for well over a year, by far the longest break from the road since they started and the time just seems right. Here is InchOregon City SessionsInch dug out of the archives. Untouched, unchanged from the day it was finished. It is a time capsule of a band finding it's way. A snapshot of young raw talent before they won awards, before they sold millions of records, before they headlined festivals. Just a couple kids from Alaska wanting to travel the world and play music

While this new album maintains it's artistic mix of aurora boralis-avant-indie pop and post punk, CHURCH MOUTH paves a new musical path for the band. A departure from 2006's drum-machine and sequencer-heavy InchWaiterL You Vulture!Inch. CHURCH MOUTH leans on Led Zeppelin, the White Stripes and Santana for inspiration. Front man John Gourley was also listening to a lot of Blind Willie Johnson, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson when he wrote the record. While most of US who grew up in the continental US were raised on Saturday morning cartoons and sugary cereal, Gourley's Alaskan upbringing was unorthodox; his youth spent exploring nature in one of the few virtually untouched territories left in the world. As a result, his striking enigmatic vision makes it's mark on the band's packaging, merch design, videos, photos, posters and music.

Leeds-based art-rock trio, Mush, are set to their feverish second LP, Lines Redacted via Memphis Industries on February 12, 2021. The new , which finds the group recruiting Lee Smith (The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses) on mixing duties, arrives just under a year after their debut LP, 3D Routine, capping off what has been an obviously tumultuous, but remarkably prolific year for the band. With any prospect of live shows decimated, the group, led by songwriter, Dan Hyndman, has found the time to two EPs ('Great Artisanal Formats' and 'Yellow Sticker Hour') and now a duo of full-length albums.1.
