About this product
Neither viruses at large nor, on a shorter scale, flighty musical trends can stop Protector. In fact, it seems that the thrash veterans have been delivering the goods in a more consistent fashion than ever since their official reformation in Sweden under their original name in 2011. Band leader Martin Missy tends to agree, seeing his troupe just as strong as it was in the late eighties. Limited double 180gm vinyl LP pressing. 2017 from the heavy metal titans. Emperor Of Sand finds Mastodon returning to a deeply imaginative and complex conceptual storyline that ponders the nature of time. Threading together the myth of a man sentenced to death in a majestically malevolent desert, the band conjures the grains of a musical and lyrical odyssey slipping quickly through a cosmic hourglass. Emperor of Sand is like the grim reaper, says drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor. Sand represents time. If you or anyone you know has ever received a terminal diagnosis, the first thought is about time. Invariably, you ask, 'How much time is left?' We're reflecting on mortality, adds bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders. To that end, the album ties into our entire discography. It's 17 years in the making, but it's also a direct reaction to the last two years. We tend to draw inspiration from very real things in our lives. Emperor Of Sand was recorded at The Quarry Recording Studio in Kennesaw, just outside Mastodon's hometown of Atlanta, with producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Neil Young, AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine), who first worked with Mastodon on their seminal 2009 album Crack The Skye.

After a glorious return to original form on Reanimated Homunculus (2013) Protector delivered their second full-length album Cursed and Coronated (2016). The album was recorded at the Sunlight Studio in Norrtälje, Sweden with producer Tomas Skogsberg. The band stayed true to themselves with evil, fast, cutting and slicing old school Thrash in the true Protector vein.

Protector are widely regarded as one of the most underrated outfits from the prolific German thrash/death scene of the Eighties. Their debut-EP InchMisanthropyInch from 1987 is a thorny gem of uncompromising thrash metal, raw and fast, and with a strong feel of evil blackness. This first official laid the base for Protector's reputation as InchGermany's most brutal bandInch, as some people called them. Protector Really Some band from some far out place in Lower Saxony It's true, Protector never rose to the same heights of fame as Kreator, Sodom and the likes, but back in the days, they made a name for themselves by playing not only fierce and sharp thrash metal, but always being extremely harsh, brutal and very very evil. InchMisanthropyInch is a perfect testimony for this In it's six-tracks-brevity, Protector's debut-EP is a violent attack on the listener, giving you six razor sharp cuts and leaving you behind, crushed and bleeding. InchMisanthropyInch was recorded in the summer of 1987 at the White Lines Studio in Braunschweig. While the band's main influences at that time were Slayer's InchReign in BloodInch, Possessed's InchSeven ChurchesInch and Exodus' InchBonded by BloodInch, InchMisanthropyInch actually sounds like none of these albums - but very unique; In part this is due to Martin Missy's extraordinary extreme vocal performance, which always bordered on the verge of death metal growls and thus added a lot to Protector's very own way of evil.
