Ribspreader - Mountain Fleshriders - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A cinematic suite of contemplative, elastic set pieces that conjures the titular Virginian river tribe/extinct county, the second solo album by Nathan Bowles (Black Twig Pickers, Pelt, Steve Gunn, Hiss Golden Messenger) deploys banjo percussion, piano, and voice to explore the country between the poles of Appalachian old-time traditions and ecstatic, minimalist drone. Featuring Tom Carter. InchNathan Bowles is like my spirit animal.InchKurt Vile.

During his Berlin visit in 1998, the Siberian sound shaman Spiridon Shishigin made recordings for his first solo CD, InchSoul of YakutiaInch. Khomus - instrument of seduction with spiritual and healing effects. The area around Lake Baikal is not only the home of the Turks, of the Mongolian and Tartar people, but also the original home of the mouth harp. From here the instrument has spread almost all over the world. The Sakha people say that the khomus (mouth harp) has been their means of expression, central to their existence, for at least three thousand years.

One of jazz music's great comedians, Marty Grosz is a brilliant acoustic guitarist whose chordal solos bring back the sound of Carl Kress and Dick McDonough of the 1930s, while his vocals are very much in the Fats Waller tradition. The material on this 15 track CD was recorded in Germany on Nov. 19th, 2001 (one track was recorded Dec. 13th, 2000). Marty is joined by trumpeter Randy Reinhart, clarinet/saxophonist Frank Roberscheuten, bassist Nico Gastreich and drummer Moritz Gastreich.
