Sha Hef - NUMB - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Johnny Griffin - Masters of Jazz [COMPACT DISCS] date 10/03/2006

2021 . Over the course of five records to date, the JUNO Award-winning Toronto rapper has used an array of old-school tools to tackle modern problems, addressing the indignities and absurdities of our world through a shapeshifting mélange of boom-bap breaks, dusty soul samples, jazzy improvisation, and 10-dollar words rolled into thousand-dollar rhymes. But after weaving his myriad musical and philosophical interests into a socio-political song cycle on 2018's Polaris short-listed A Short Story About A War, Shad began building his sixth record, TAO, from a much simpler concept an image of a circle. Though, in true Shad fashion, he saw something much more profound within it's basic round boundaries.

Brooklyn's own Sha Stimuli stands as one of New York's most gifted lyricists, a wordsmith whose depth and authenticity set him apart in the crowded landscape of Hip-Hop. Originally signed to Virgin Records, Sha was poised for a major debut. However, rather than fall victim to industry politics, he chose to take control of his artistic vision, forging a path on his own terms. Originally released in 2008 on Chambermusik Records, Sha's critically acclaimed debut album My Soul to Keep returns, now digitally remastered to bring out every nuanced bar and beat with enhanced clarity. Widely regarded as a Hip-Hop classic, this project features hard-hitting collaborations with Freeway, Young Chris, and Torae, while production credits boast an all-star lineup, including the legendary Just Blaze, Lord Digga, Chopz, J. Cardim, DJ Victorious, and G-Clef da Mad Komposa. This definitive edition highlights Sha Stimuli's unparalleled lyricism and storytelling, making it a must-have for longtime fans and new listeners alike. My Soul to Keep remains a timeless reflection of Sha's journey, standing tall as a true testament to the power of independence and artistic integrity in Hip-Hop. The 2024 digitally remastered maintains the spirit of the original 2008 while offering a fresh, polished listening experience.
