  • Key Specs
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (22.2 x 14.8 mm)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSCRX100M2/B
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot RX100 II 20.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: DSLR Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (22.2 x 14.8 mm)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5472 x 3648 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: 54x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): AVCHD, JPEG, MPEG-4, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: iAuto: 4 - 1/2000 sec.; Program Auto: 1 - 1/2000 sec.; Manual 30 - 1/2000 sec. (bulb); Aperture Priority 8 - 1/2000 sec.; Shutter Priority 30 - 1/2000 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: f/1.8 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/2 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Shooting Modes: Portrait, antimotion blur, sports action, pet, gourmet, macro, landscape, sunset, night scene, handheld twilight, night portrait, fireworks and more (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent (warm white) and more (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Type: Standard Zoom
    • Minimum Focal Length: 8.8 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 73.3 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • Lens Series: Sony E (The product group that the lens belongs to, based on similar shared features.)
    • Lens Model Number: Built-in
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic, Off, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Video
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)

Q: I have an IPad can I use the wifi to download pictures to the IPad ?

A: Ye, this camera is compatible with an iPad.

Q: Best way to get clear low light shots with action

A: Use the highest ISO you are comfortable with digital noise wise. Preferably 3200 or above. Shoot at the widest aperture preferred setting 1.8 at 28mm if possible. This will give you the fastest shutter speed possible. Last but not least pan with your subject. - good shooting!

Q: Charging

A: Yes, the battery is charged when the camera is connected to the computer thru the USB cable.

Q: Can you zoom and refocus when you are recording a video clip?

A: No manual focusing. Zoom while filming? Yes. The depth of field and tracking while filming is pretty great. Locks on subjects if you choose. This camera is no joke. Please treat yourself.

Q: Can I connect a microphone cord to assist in recording?

A: The RX100M2 itself does not have a microphone jack. The only way to connect external audio to it is via the multi interface hot shoe. You can buy an external microphone such as the ECM-XYST1M which mounts directly on the hot shoe, or the XL1-K1M adapter which allows you to connect two external audio inputs via XLR jacks.
