The 2M Series of cartridges is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Ortofon's philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible without coloring the sound.The name 2M was selected from several ideas. Ortofon wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM which is the abbreviation for moving magnet. The 2M series of cartridges features Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.   We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. Building on Rainier, Olympia implements an upgraded cantilever assembly that reduces moving mass, translating to more nimble groove tracing, extended nuance and expanded frequency response. A slight decrease in output from Rainier reduces noise in an already-quiet design, improving imaging and perpetuating realism that’s rare to come by in this class of cartridge.

The VM530EN/H combo kit includes the VM530EN elliptical nude dual moving magnet cartridge premounted on the AT-HS10BK universal 1/2"-mount headshell. The VM530EN is a top-end elliptical stylus cartridge in Audio-Technica’s new VM cartridge line – a line that harks back to A-T’s early days as a manufacturer primarily of high-end phono cartridges, while also incorporating today’s advanced technology. Like all VM cartridges, the VM530EN is equipped with dual magnets that are positioned to match the left and right channels in the stereo record groove for outstanding channel separation and extended frequency response. The cartridge’s lightweight 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical nude stylus reduces the execution mass of the vibration system, enabling fuller frequency reproduction and less tracking distortion than a bonded stylus.
