About this product
There are several sets of pieces that Bach collated (also) with his lessons in mind, amongst them the 'Orgelbuchlein', the 'Little Organ Book', which he started whilst working in Weimar in 1708, and the so-called 'Inventions and Sinfonias', composed in the 1720s in Cothen for his son Wilhelm Friedemann and for Inchlovers of the clavier, and particularly those who desire to learnInch. He worked on the 'Orgelbuchlein' over many years, adding to it and making changes, presumably adapting to his student's needs. His inscription on the title page proclaims in a rhyming couplet that his compositions were Inchin praise for the Almighty's will, and for my neighbour's greater skillInch. In the context of this programme two choral preludes and two 'Sinfonias' are used as Inchwarm-upsInch, or preludes for five imagined lessons, functioning as the binding of the student's portfolio.

Looking at the variety of Italian baroque instrumental music on offer to today's listener, one could be forgiven for thinking that Vivaldi had faced little competition during his lifetime. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Whilst the volume of music that flowed from Vivaldi's pen was unusually plentiful, many other composers were needed to fulfil the needs of the regional courts and churches throughout Italy. Expert early-music ensemble La Serenissima perform works by Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri, Giuseppe Sammartini, Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco and Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello alongside works by Vivaldi on this new album of Italian Baroque masterpieces.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2009 album from the veteran singer/songwriter. Hurley's songwriting talent hasn't gone unnoticed by a new generation of musicians. In recent years, he was invited to tour with Alt-Country heroes Son Volt and Lucinda Williams. He's also shared bills with Smog and Palace Brothers, played with the Giant Sand rhythm section, and has, of course, appeared with (and been covered by) Vetiver and appeared on their records. His songs have also been covered by indie stars Cat Power and Yo La Tengo, among others. 12 tracks.

We need Bach's music, regardless of the instrument (Tabea Zimmermann) Ten years after her acclaimed album InchSoloInch with the first two cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach, violist Tabea Zimmermann now sets her sights on Suites Nos. 3 and 4. She pairs them with excerpts from György Kurtág's cycle InchGames, Signs & MessagesInch, selecting six numbers to form her own personal homage to Bach. For what kind of instruments did Bach write his solo suites BWV 1007-1012? How did they sound, what did they look like? This subject still gives rise to much speculation. Johann Peter Kellner's manuscript copy from the early 1700s is one of the two main sources for the six solo suites, and it indicates a viola basso. The violoncello had not yet become standardized in terms of size, construction, and playing technique; Bach probably had instruments in mind such as the violoncello piccolo or the viola da spalla. The latter was a viola attached in front of the body by a strap Bach performed the viola da spalla in public himself - possibly these suites. Tabea Zimmermann has not switched her musical hardware for this recording here she plays her 1980 Vatelot viola with a classical bow. In 2009, the album InchSoloInch (MYR003) launched Tabea Zimmermann's collaboration with the myrios classics tag. The was crowned with a multitude of international awards Gramophone Editor's Choice, InchStern des MonatsInch in Fono Forum, 4f in Télérama and 5 Stars in the Italian magazine Musica; moreover, in response to that groundbreaking recording, the jury of the coveted German ECHO Klassik Prize selected Tabea Zimmermann as Inch2010 Instrumentalist of the YearInch.
