The Besnard Lakes - Coliseum Complex Museum - VINYL LP

Limited white colored vinyl LP pressing. Unique among their furrowed brow peers, The Besnard Lakes are unafraid to marry textured, questing headphone sonics to the honeyed pleasure of radio hits past the rapture of My Bloody Valentine entwined with the romance of Fleetwood Mac. Imagine dreamy Beach House riding Led Zeppelin dynamics, with unabashedly androgynous vocal harmonies. Channeling their obsessions with the paranormal as well as the dark arts, A Coliseum Complex Museum is populated by cryptozoological creatures (InchThe Bray Road Beast,Inch InchGolden LionInch) while also luxuriating in natural phenomena and beauty (InchThe Plain Moon,Inch InchNightingaleInch). These themes are sincere yet good-humored. The LP's title jokily refers to a landmark-heavy road sign spotted on tour in Texas, the varied emotional impulses within reflected by it's environmentally warped artwork.

When Eastern European Jews immigrated en masse to the United States in the 1880s and '90s fleeing Czarist oppression and poverty, they brought with them a body of secular folk songs. Sung in Yiddish by men and women who came here from five villages (with English translations and explanations), this recording archives a lost way of life.

Following closely on from the critically acclaimed LP, Besnard Lakes Are The last Of The Great Thunderstorm Warnings, the Montreal Psych-Rock band return with a beguiling 3 track EP which revisits the psychedelic drone and dazzle of the album in the shape of three extended excursions into dream-like space jams. The EP was recorded during the same sessions as the album, but was considered to be a separate project.
