About This Item

Traditionally, there has always been a profound love affair between trains and roots music. As blues developed as a serious musical genre, during the 1920s and 30s, many of it's pioneers travelled from city to city, gig to gig, by hopping aboard moving freight trains. Their hoboing/rambling 'adventures' gradually became absorbed into their songs, along with metaphors and descriptive phrases like Inchriding the railsInch, Inchside-trackedInch, InchderailedInch, Inchliving on the right tracksInch, Inchblowing your stackInch, etc. This compilation presents twenty-six blues/R&B legends, ranging in fame, importance and influence from Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Tiny Bradshaw (who appears twice), Big Bill Broonzy, Lightnin' Hopkins, etc. , to lesser-known, mere mortals like Gabriel Brown, Silver Crooks, Willie Love, Soldier Boy Houston, Cousin Leroy, Willie Love and many more. The songs themselves include classic numbers like 'Mystery Train', 'The Train Kept A-Rollin', 'Mean Old Train', 'South Bound Train' and 'Train Fare Home' Album Tracks 1. Train Fare Home - Muddy Waters 2. Hold That Train - Gabriel Brown 3. Memphis Train - Dick Davis & His Orchestra Featuring Sonny Thompson 4. Mr. Ticket Agent - Silver Cooks & the Gondoliers 5. Train Whistle Blowing - Little Willie Littlefield 6. Stop That Train in Harlem - Walter Davis 7. Don't Miss That Train - Joe Liggins 8. Built Like a Railroad Track - Tiny Bradshaw 9. Deftones - Around the Fur - VINYL LP
    4.6(12)

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8. Dai the Flu 9. Headup 10. MX
