About this product
Trelldom are the brainchild of Kristian Eivind Espedal, who is better known under his artist's name Gaahl. The Norwegian became one of the leading figures of the Nordic black metal scene after joining the notorious Bergen outfit GORGOROTH in 1998. For many years, the vocalist was pigeonholed for his extreme vocals and attracted many, often dark rumours about his person. If any notion is true about Espedal, it is to always expect the unexpected. Trelldom have already written black metal history. The band founded by Gaahl in Sunnfjord, Vestland in 1992 released their debut album InchTil evighet... Inch (1995) to great acclaim in underground black metal circles. Having changed the line-up to include guitarist Valgard and Stian InchSirInch Karstad on bass, Trelldom unleashed their sophomore full-length InchTil et annet... Inch (1999) to already much attention of mainstream metal media. This album was produced by the legendary sound engineer Pytten at Grieghallen Studios in Bergen. Pytten also recorded the third milestone InchTil minne... Inch (2007), which became highly regarded both by critics and fans. One of the key aspects of Trelldom's first trilogy has always been that in his own band Gaahl was free of the strict limitations under which GORGOROTH operated, and therefore able to explore his voice at will. With Inch... by the shadows... Inch the Norwegian artist breaks free from another mould. Returning after many years of dormancy, in which the musicians involved went on to work with several other projects, there is both continuity and change. The crucial collaboration with Stian Karstad remains at the musical heart of the band. The by far the largest part of all songs on Inch... by the shadows... Inch has been created by Sir, who has also taken over all guitar duties. Yet Espedal has changed other aspects of Trelldom, which created fascinating effects. Now the renow

Paper Tiger's All Over the Place is a moody record, but also muscular-with strong kick patterns, spare but catchy vocal sampling, and short songs that make their mark then make an exit. Paper manages a nostalgia without sentimentalism, a 90s-style urgency and earnestness. The lead single, InchA Different Trish,Inch features some drum and bass patterns that could score a new Run Lola Run sprint scene; it's a dark, tightly-wound, electronic universe built and dismantled in 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Paper Tiger has a long list of credits as a hip hop producer, but working solo allows his style room to maneuver; All Over the Place explores everything from slow, drumless ambient compositions to hard, dark dance music. There's a unifying sensibility, though the chord progressions lean melancholy, textured timbres feel a little like grainy film, and distinct song sections reveal his pop fluency. For this record Paper set aside some of his digital rig to work with hardware instruments, in part because of what they can't do. InchCreative limitations can generate new ideas quickly for me-also you can't get email or breaking news on a synthesizer.Inch The product of Paper's efforts is a 12-track album with a distinct cinematic quality; All Over the Place is one of those records that turns your life into a movie as soon as you hit play. The tides of synth in your headphones swallow up the din of traffic and strangers' chatter and the frame rate slows on your walk home. And everything feels infused with some new, deliberate significance the guy on the corner stuck to his phone becomes a sympathetic everyman, the cityscape is suddenly vivified by all the human stories unspooling in it-you in your headphones among them.

With Inch... by the word... Inch, Trelldom are pushing forward hard into their new musical era that was ushered in by the previous full-length Inch... by the shadows... Inch (2024), which ended a 17-year hiatus of the Norwegian band. Mastermind Kristian Eivind Espedal aka Gaahl and his diligently selected collaborators have gone even beyond the complex yet sinister sound that they established with Inch... by the shadows... Inch. The exponentially grown confidence and hard-gained experience of joining together seemingly quite different musicians is reflected clearly in each track of Inch... by the word... Inch. Trelldom have concluded the process of escaping the narrowest definition of black metal without compromising their artistic mission. Their music does not only stay loyal to the spirit of their black metal roots, but the Norwegians are making a solid point that their new sound is even more dark and fierce than ever before - just in more twisted and unhinged ways. Inch... by the word... Inch is the result of Espedal expanding the immense range of his vocals even further into unexplored territories. And it should be noted that this was partly achieved by his return to the famous Grieghallen Studios in Bergen to work again with legendary producer Eirik Hundvin aka Pytten, who was instrumental in the creation of the 'Norwegian black metal' sound. Trelldom continue in the tradition of all of Espedal's art, which asks to always expect the unexpected. With Inch... by the word... Inch the exploration of avant-garde dissonance, wicked rhythm patterns, and wild ideas again destroys preconceptions and demands intense listening. Better prepare to be challenged by every note!
