About this product
After the album dedicated to chamber music [TC931901] by the composer Luciano Simoni - passed away in 2010 - in this CD Tactus is presenting his Missa Solemnis, a large composition dedicated in 1987 to the Pope Giovanni Paolo ii (premiere in Bologna and later in Poland in Wroclaw), immediately enjoying considerable success. Simoni's Mass certainly reflects the inner needs of a believing composer who adheres with passion and faith to the depth of the sacred texts, as his own words are explaining to us «What is represented in my Missa is the descent of God towards man, who is then raised towards Him [...], in my work there is the anxiety and fear of contemporary mankind, there is the constant, unceasing human tension towards salvation, where only Christian hope can be a safe haven.».

Nick Phoenix has made a name for himself as one half of Two Steps From Hell, the number one epic music band with 2 gold records and millions of fans. If you ask Nick though, his true love is rock and roll. Nick's third rock album InchUnderdogInch is double vinyl masterpiece with catchy rock songs with lyrics that range from deep to fun and up-lifting. There is a clear classic rock undertone in his music, but it is also very modern feel with band members from John Mayer's band, Death Cab and Tim McGraw.

Anyone familiar with Bruckner, his symphonic architectures reaching for the stars as well as his later Missas from the 1860s, may well be amazed at how deep his Missa Solemnis is still rooted in the solid tradition of Viennese Classicism. In this recording, this rarely heard and recently re-edited and newly published gem is put into the context of the inauguration service of collegiate provost Friedrich Mayr on 14 September 1854 in St. Florian, for which it was written. It is interspersed with the original Proper settings by Robert Fuhrer, Joseph Eybler, and Johann Baptist Gansbacher. This brilliantly mastered album was recorded at the Konzerthaus Berlin in June 2017 as a coproduction with Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
