Vijay Iyer - Compassion - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Vijay Iyer - Wiring [COMPACT DISCS] date 08/26/2014

No one inhabits a Steinway quite like Australian pianist Lisa Moore, which is probably why so many modern composers have invited her to interpret their music. Known for her Inchbeautiful and impassionedInch approach, as the New York Times described one of her performances, Moore brings a fully charged sense of rhythm, mysticism and adventure to The Stone People, her first full-length recording for Cantaloupe Music. It follows in the footsteps of Moore's three-part series of acclaimed EPs for the tag - Seven (2009), Lightning Slingers and Dead Ringers (2011) and Stainless Staining (2012) - and features music composed by John Luther Adams, Martin Bresnick, Missy Mazzoli, Kate Moore and Julia Wolfe.

Anchored in the idea that, despite all obstacles, the human experience casts a net of possibilities, Defiant Life - Vijay Iyer and Wadada Leo Smith's second duo recording for ECM - proves a profound meditation on the human condition and both the suffering and resilience it entails. Recorded within two days at Lugano's Auditorio Stelio Molo, Defiant Life was produced by Manfred Eicher. InchThis recording session was conditioned by our ongoing sorrow and outrage over the past year's cruelties, but also by our faith in human possibility.Inch - Vijay Iyer
