It’s a bit overkill, and there’s not much difference in performance for most tasks, but it’s currently one of the top storage solutions available, with the added benefit of a very large capacity.

Upgraded from a 4×4TB Crucial MX500 RAID 0 array (which was solid in its own right) to four 8TB WD Black SN850s in a RAID 0 configuration for a 32TB setup. The goal was to move away from SATA III bottlenecks—and mission accomplished. Load times are noticeably faster, and shader caching is instant across all titles. No stuttering before, but now everything feels even more seamless and snappy. Setup was clean, drives run cool, and the capacity bump is a huge win. If you're transitioning from SATA to NVMe for gaming installs and live play, this setup delivers real-world gains without compromise.

SN850X performs well. I was considering a gen 5, but after reviewing the overall average speed, I felt a 8TB gen 4 was better value than a 4TB Gen 5. Yaay, with 8TB of storage, there is no longer a need to content back and forth between HDD and SDD to manage space!
