Webb Pierce was one of the most successful country artists during the 1950s, scoring more country No. 1s during the decade than any other artist. He was primarily identified with the honky-tonk school of country, and although over the years his style mellowed somewhat to embrace the developing Nashville sound and occasionally flirted with the rock 'n' roll end of the genre, he was very much a cornerstone of the honky-tonky style.
