Although the Greek gods were mightier than the vermin that they had build their temples, they were not immune to human impulses. Jealousy in particular often confused them - as Johann Sigismund Kusser showed the Stuttgart court around 1700, when he sent the InchdivineInch opera heroes into a commotion. Cupid shoots wildly in every direction, causing Apollo to be after Daphne and Venus burns for Adonis, who in turn is only interested in a lively hunt - until finally an arrow hardened by Vulcan penetrates and he succumbs to the goddess of love. She weakens his aim and so a wild boar takes him by the tusks. It was long thought that this exquisite, effervescent opera was lost. However, it was tracked down and rediscovered by an Australian scholar in the Wurttemberg State Library in 2005, enabling Halubeck and il Gusto Barocco to record it and add another gem to the catalogue of baroque opera.

Antonia Bembo's opera L'Ercole amante waited nearly 340 years for it's premiere. This delay may have been due to the subject matter, as her teacher, Antonio Cavalli, had already composed a festival opera based on the same tragedy for the wedding of Louis XIV and Maria Theresa of Spain in 1660. Although the Sun King, reportedly an admirer of her compositions, had taken the Venetian singer under his wings following her separation from her husband and relocation to France, he was already by then quite familiar with the tragic tale of Hercules. And so, he allowed the enchanting and emotionally stirring music, rich with arias, to pass him by. Finally, on May 26, 2023, Jorg Halubek and Il Gusto Barocco brought this long-overlooked masterpiece to it's well-deserved breakthrough at Stuttgart's Liederhalle.

This formidable ensemble, founded in 1991 and an international symbol of fine chamber and string music culture, demonstrates musicological centres with the aid of three works the Gaede Trio works it's way elegantly into each composition and discovers a particular timbre and depth in each one. It is simply delightful to follow these chamber musicians as a listener because it is an experience. (Das Orchester) Inch... seldom has a string trio displayed such smooth tone and cultivated playing. Even more impressive are the apparent ease and balance; their early Schubert is calm but always so fresh and alert that it never sounds old-fashioned. This is a graceful, lilting performance; a few exaggerated phrases add color without distorting the line If this performance (Dohnanyi) fails to erase memories of the Heifetz-Primrose-Feuermann recording, it does replace that classic as the one I will listen to most often. It also reveals the Gaede's range this could be three different ensembles, specialists in the Classical, Late-Romantic, and Expressionist repertoires.Inch (Fanfare)
